I'm not real familiar with this area but might go for a customer if I can get a good rate that covers tolls. I'd be coming in from either i95 or i78. Which is the best way to get out to Long Island and what should I expect to pay for tolls for a 5 axle rig? Thanks in advance.

What is the name of town on the long island, different costs on num. of toll bridges you may be able to avoid crossing if going diff. rt. once on the island?

Bellmore I believe. I've tried looking at tollsmart and their app has bad reviews, can't really get any solid numbers.

Your routing would be I-95N across the George Washington Bridge, toll is $95.00 for 5 axles then I-295S across the Throgs Neck Bridge, toll is $45 (I think), then I-495EorW, depending on where on LI you are going.

First question is, Do you use EZPASS? This reduces the toll price over CASH. Second question is, how far out on the island will you be going?
If coming in on 78, take 295 south around to 440 and across Outerbridge Crossing. $85/EZPASS-$105/CASH. Then 278 across to the Verrazanno which is FREE going in, then follow 278 on to 495 out to Long Island,
Coming out take either Throgs Neck or Whitestone, $27.31/EZPASS- $43/ CASH ( which ever is near where you are) across to 95 south and on across the GW ( Free going to NJ)
If you are coming in on 80 across NJ then the GW is the same toll as OuterBridge and Throgs Neck/Whitestone has toll going both ways.

Ok, if it is Bellmore, you would cross Outerbridge/Verazanno to Prospect Expressway/ East/South to Ft Hamilton exit. Stay on 15th to Caton. Left on Caton and follow Highway 27 to Bellmore. Lots of traffic lights but shortest route.

buzzarddriver, you've clearly spent entirely too much time on that side of the Hudson River. God bless ya, man! This said in a joking kind of way.

Thanks for the info....much appreciated. I don't have ezpass. I assume any tolls where you didn't state free going in or out would end up being ×2. My overall length would be about 78ft if that makes any difference also.

The direction of travel determines the FREE status and is FREE to all traveler's. Going out to Staten Island across Verazanno is $86/CASH and $54.62/ EZPASS, then Gothel's or Outerbridge is FREE going to NJ.

Oh man he's going to be hating life if he goes that way. He'll wreck his trailer on the interchange from 278/BQE to 27/Prospect Expressway if he's 78 feet long for one thing. They have the jersey barriers set up so stupid on that interchange that it's almost impossible not to at least kiss the sides with your trailer axles. Then once you get onto Linden Blvd there are some pretty dangerous S-curves and clearances. I used to drag pup trailers around that area and that was not as big a deal but I pulled a 53/sleeper combo through there exactly once and delcared well this was a stupid idea...should have stayed on the highway.

Get off at Atlantic Ave and cut across to Conduit Blvd if you're feeling adventurous and want to take the grand tour of Brooklyn, or better yet just stay on BQE to the 495/LIE east interchange and run that out.
