Most important, don't get caught up in the idea of making the baddest rig on the planet! Start first by examining very closely what your current work is and then try your best to think 5 years ahead. This is important, trust me I made this mistake and it is still costing me dearly. What I mean, just because today you are hauling mid size units from a railhead doesn't meant in two years your contract won't change.

Make a list of what is most important to you, the must have basics then think about what is nice to have to make your day better. Then decide what these options are worth to you, otherwise the salesmen will eat you alive. Also, get a good understanding of what each added or deleted option does to the resale of the truck and also the delivery time. You can get a new truck in as little as a few days or up to 18 months wait time, all depending on what you want. This lead time can really impact what you buy and when you buy it.

Kozakvod and SLK international Thank this.

After starting out with bunch of old junk stuff I love the feeling I get now when I get home I just park new rig and forget about it enjoy time with family. Those of us that drive deprive our loved ones of quality time as is, no need to spend days at home around old equipment. Downside is if you finance new stuff can't really park it for 6 months like I used to when I didn't have monster monthly payments. Just my .02

Thanks so much for the responses, truly appreciated!

That's my internal issue SLK. Everything I've ever had or have was or is paid for. I can come and go as I like without a burden of a large monthly payment. And the thought of having one is a rip, to put it mildly. However, my wife who NEVER road with me has been with me for every mile over the last 4 months and my rig really isnt that comfortable for two. She really enjoys being out and if she's staying out with me I'd like to provide her with some additional comfort. Our kids are grown and gone so no reason to stick around the house.

We just refi'd our home. I paid off every last piece of debt we had and now I'm thinking about this, but the waters are murky to me about the process. What to expect. What questions to ask. What it will cost and cost me monthly and for how long, etc. etc. etc.

I'll keep poking my head in and researching and hopefully it will all flush out.

Well I have a paccar with 267k on it. I'm not the gentlest driver but I don't abuse it. It's been in the shop 2 times since put in service may 2k15 one for a blown power divider (peterbilt admitted to it being a factory problem) and just the other day for a shorted wire harness. Haven't had any issues with the emissions yet

And I average 4.9 mpg lifetime with it. And I'm usually never the slowest guy on the road
