Where did you get that? Nowhere does it indicate you have to log "sleeper." It doesn't matter what kind of truck you're driving. You can take your 10 anywhere you want even when in a sleeper. Like a previous post said, you can take it in a nudie bar if you're so inclined.

    SemperFiServices Thanks this.

WOw, I'm so surprised at how some still view this issue. As long as it's not behind the wheel, driving, then you can log line 1. Heck, if you wanna sleep in the drivers seat (which would SUCK) you can still log line 1. You can sleep in a tent under the trailer, or stretch a 4x8 sheet of plywood across the frame if you gotta short trailer, sleep IN the trailer, whatever- as long as it isn't logged as line 2 SB, you're good to go. And NO- you don't have to show any hotel receipts. If some idiot DOT cop shuts you down, just remind him you're taking him to court for false arrest and wages lost. Now this all being said- don't be a skinflint- get a darn sleeper! I drive a stinkin' 1996 cab over Intl, which SUCKS compared to a conventional, but after I get comfy while having to undress laying down, it's so worth it to have a cozy bed to rest in, watch a movie on my laptop, and sleep away the day's frustrations. If you plan on doing that with a day cab, you better get plenty of curtains to block out the lights LOL.

The package drivers that drive at night may have a day where they cannot sleep in the daytime and will pull over for a half hour NAP or perhaps 2 or even three hours but they are completing their trip within their 14 hour window. They are not taking a 10 break reclined in their seat, slumped over the steering wheel or on the floor of the cab.

Knew a guy who did SW regional runs in a day cab. He slept in a hammock under the trailer...

I've slept in a sleeping bag on a crappy cot in 25* weather before for pre-deployment training. Just another way of saying it can be done. But I never wanted to get out of my toasty sleeping bag into 25-30* temps though LOL!

No if in a daycab u can not log line 1 while in the truck it is technically illegal. But we all do it because of the 30 min break

What does that have to do with your 10? Log out, problem solved. The law says 10 hours off, not 10 hours sleeping.

Technically, under the old rule, you are correct. Any time spent in a CMV, except in the sleeper, was to be logged as On Duty. But the new rule, which was effective on Feb 27 2012, states that any time spent resting in a CMV is exempt.

Here is a idea not sure of the legality. If you are in great shape take a subzero pup tent and sleeping bag. Set up on back of truck and log everything as off duty. If the weather is too bad set it up and then sleep in truck. Should not be illegal to camp out. Just a thought.......
