couple questions about tmc

Maybe as a o/o but I have a hard time believing he is making that as a company driver.

 

I hear ya TreeStand,,,I am skeptical myself but I take everyone for there word until proven different. I asked the recruiter myself what I honestly could stand to make at TMC on percentage and she (Laura) told me between $50,000 and $70,000 depending on how much I go home. We Shall See

50k I believe, but in order to do 70k assuming $.45 per mile ( I was making $.44 at Maverick) you would have to run better than 150k miles which is all but impossible to do pulling a flatbed.

 

I would imagine a recruiter gets paid for every person that TMC hires and how long they stay. So they may exaggerate things to get you in the door. I know trainers get paid a bonus if you stay 6 months or a year after your done your 5 week on the road training so maybe its the same with recruiters. I was told similar things and in my short time there never made over $500 a week take home. I also heard similar stories by others here and on the road. Some do good others don't for whatever reasons, some the fault of the driver some for no reason given.

You also have to remember they are a training company too, meaning usually the first year or so they are making more money off you than drivers with many years of service. I was told they get the cheap driver you get the needed experience in the industry and its considered a fair trade off.

$50k-$70k your first year I think is on the high end. I think the average driver just starting out there would realistically make $30k-$50k his first year with most being on the lower end of that. Of course it all depends on how well you keep your out of route miles down, idle time down and on time deliveries to boost your % up. Also much dependent on how freight is flowing too.

Not trying to discourage anyone and my info might be a bit out of date but just saying don't believe all the hype. Good luck though.

 

I was looking at both TMC and Maverick, but TMC reimburses for tuition and they work with the VA. That means I will be getting my GI Bill payments while driving. I wish I knew of Van companies that offer that. The only one I heard of is Werner and too many bad reviews on them..

 

I used my GI-Bill at Schneider,,so I know they do and I also know Roehl does as well...

It could be that he is in the heavy haul fleet (I think they call it "specialized" with the RGN trailers)...I made almost $70k the last year Schneider had a heavy haul fleet. Maverick ruined it when they quit hauling the west coast loads...thats where my $$$ came from, 2,800 mile loads at 55 cents per mile (1 load per week, more or less). Just a thought...



If that lady's post is true...I just might have found reason enough to make the switch, I will look into it (my cousin drives for TMC)...I miss those long hauls and BIG paychecks.

 

It doesn't have to be he heavy haul to make that much. Most of TMC drivers are paid percentage, with 23% being the lowest you could ever make, 32 the highest. If you get loaded and unloaded in good time, keep out of route miles low, and fuel mileage high, you'll get better loads that pay more.

 

I emailed TMC last night, and Dennis called me first thing this morning...

I didn't ask about pay because I know that is largely based on driver performance (no matter who you drive for)...

The kicker was Canada...I do not go to Canada in a truck...been there, done that (MANY times)...ain't going back!

He said they don't do a lot of Canada, and I said once is one too many times for me

I'll give him this though...he was honest! I've been at this long enough to know BS when I hear it but Dennis didn't even attempt it...he answered the questions I asked and listened to my horror story of a border crossing that is the reason I will never go back to Canada in a truck, I thanked him for calling me...and that was that.

I did talk to a TMC driver or 2 on the CB today though...

If TMC would guarantee me no Canada, I would come right on over...I knew they wouldn't do it, but it never hurts to ask.

I'd really like to be able to shift my own gears again...all 13 of them.
