Monday August 10th. Redcoat left the Pilot on I-20 at exit 5 (BigRay, RC says hi back at 'cha) and made his way south on I-285 around Atlanta because it looked to be a huge back up going straight through town. He stopped in at the Pilot close to Augusta but it was full. Since he only has less than 10 more miles to go, he went ahead and made his way to the receiver even though he was a couple hours early for his 1630 appointment time. As he pulled in, a truck was pulling out of the dock and the instructions from his directions said if there was an empty spot to back it in and wait. So now he's waiting along with a Schneider truck and two others in the yard. So far, no sign of anybody about. He's guessing they must be at lunch.

While he's waiting, he calls the Logs Dept. (like every driver is supposed to do once a month to see if they have any violations) and finds out that they are missing his July 16 and 17 log pages. He pulls out his paperwork from those jobs, we verify that he did, in fact, get paid for them, and then he checks the number of pages against how many were sent in the fax. Eight for eight. All accounted for. That tells him that SOMEwhere in between whoever gets the faxed trip paks and Logs Dept. that those two sheets disappeared as a sacrifice to great and mysterious TRIPPAK god :notworthy: that lives in the basement of the monolith known as the Covenant headquarters.

Lesson to all you newbies, ALWAYS keep track of your paperwork for at least six months to make sure all the departments at Covenant get everything they're supposed to.

OK so that's one vote for the two weeks notice. For the record, Redcoat would NEVER abandon his truck and will definitely take it to Chatt. to turn it in. However, getting the supervisor to sign off on it is good advice so he will make sure that gets done. THANKS!

You can't drive straight through ATL unless you are delivering or picking up inside the 285 loop. It's a hefty fine if you ever get caught. All truck traffic has to use the I-285 bypass.

Don't abandon the truck. Give two weeks notice. They will NOT pay any bonus unless you are currently employed there. (remember, their logic is different than your logic) I would get hired on with Maverick asap. Because, you would kick yourself in the arse if you goofed off and procrastinated and 2 days before you headed to orientation, Maverick came out with a new policy that states "We only hire newbies with 18 months experience". Remember, a recruiter saying you are approved, and actually getting hired are 2 different things. :biggrin_2552:

Ms. RC, don't do anything at Cov. until you have the bonus money in the banking account.

The day you have the bonus in the banking account, call Cov. and ask for personal leave (he can get up to 3 months being one year in the co.)

Then, go to orientation and ask Maverick not to check with Cov. (so Cov. doesn't know... because he is still employed at Cov).

Then, even work at Maverick for a while to see if he likes.:yes2557:

If he decides to stay with Maverick, then, call Cov. and give the 2 week advance notice.

    All the best. :biggrin_25519:

I agree with Rocks. The question is would Maverick wait on him until Sept 28th? If not I would say to at least ride it out until the 30th of August. Hopefully Covenant will pay out the $500.

All of you make good points. But we have run into a problem in that after talking to the recruiter, he said that he is only authorized to hire up to the end of August. He says they feel pretty good about September but haven't heard anything as of yet.

So it looks like Redcoat needs to make his decision by August 30.

Redcoat called HR at Covenant to find out who he needs to give his notice to and they said to his DM. He can give one or two weeks.

It would be nice to be able to take personal leave like Rocks said but that won't work in this case because Maverick says they need Redcoat's drug test results and accident report from Covenant and the company won't give it to them while he is still working there. So Redcoat has to quit before they will release that info. Maverick says they will conditionally hire him at the end of orientation and as long as they don't get anything bad from Covenant, there will be no problem. If they do, they will let him go. For the record, Redcoat has never failed a drug test and he hasn't had any accidents. He's gotten his safety bonus every time so no worries there. Of course, you never know what Covenant might come up with.

That's why I said in an earlier post that Redcoat would be taking a leap of faith because he's going to have to quit one job in order to take a chance with another one. If he doesn't make it through Maverick orientation for whatever reason, we're screwed.

L.B. you are right and Redcoat knew that. It was my misunderstanding. I thought traffic was backing up on the I-20 but when Redcoat was approaching the I-285 interchange, he asked me to have a quick look to see which way was shorter, north or south, and I told him south. He said, "Good because it's backing up going north." I was thinking he was talking about I-20 because I didn't hear him say the 'north' part.

From Covenant? I thought Maverick could check that info online and with the DMV...

I would definitely give 2wks notice and ask them where they want the truck turned in at and have them sign off on it. If you tell them to come get it, they will put abandoned equipment on his DAC and he will never work in trucking again.
I would try to leave on the best terms possible just in case something were to happen with Maverick's orientation. By the way, they did have a pretty tough agility test. You may want to ask one of the current drivers if they still use that.
