..yes I'm surprised also their 'idle policy' wasn't mentioned, u can suffer thru summer but winter, you could freeze to death! .. and RCW pls have RC read this thread I'm going with Maverick: newbie trainee blog by wbfjax.. he was sent home after his 1st test drive at Mav for failing to reduce his exit ramp speed the recommended 10mph under the posted limit (he was driving 5mph under!); no warning or points or 2nd chance, they were told the next day u failed the road test.. now an interesting sidenote to this was the 2 guys cut just happened to mention UNIONS at the Question & Answer meeting that was held before the road test.. so my advice to RC is to listen very carefully at orientation as to what will cause them to fail a road test at Maverick.. oh & don't mention UNIONS at the Question & Answer meeting!![]()

Today I heard that starting Sept 1 here in Texas there will be a no idle policy taking effect.. I assume they have a clause for extreme heat, and cold.. But boy it was the talk of the CB today..
-
Hahahah.... I wonder if truckers will "obey" that. I hope they won't.

thanks for the great thread - hope everything works out for RC

Well, Redcoat has been busy since he delivered the load to Conyers, GA a couple days ago. Contrary to what we figured would happen, Covenant has kept RC rollin' in his few days left with the company. After he made his delivery in GA he got deassigned from the OK run to Muskogee. Then he got a message to MT move to Chatt. and since he wasn't too far and he had the hours left he went ahead and started up the road figuring they wanted him to turn in his truck.
That turned out not to be the case.
What they did (and of course this makes no sense) is they deassigned him from the OK job so that they could give it to a guy at Chatt. to make the run up to Knoxville for the pick-up and then bring the load back to Chatt. to give to Redcoat to take to Muskogee. The man was supposed to be back in Chatt. with the load by 1400 but didn't get to the yard until 1800 and by then it was too late for RC to hit the road as he was out of hours. So he had to wait until the next morning before he could leave.
If they'd have just left him on the job in the first place, he had enough time after making his delivery to head straight up the road to Knoxville, make the pick-up and then get an hour down the road before he had to spend the night.
And to top it off, they didn't tell the other guy what they were doing and he didn't realize he was giving up the load to RC until he got back to Chatt. PLUS, the dude got a ticket on that run. So he was having a bad day.
On the way to OK Redcoat got pulled over for a random DOT inspection. He passed with no write ups. When he QC's his DM to tell him about it, he got a warm fuzzy, "Great job!"
It seems that since RC turned in his notice that his DM has been his new best friend. Both he and his boss talked to RC on the phone trying to convince him to stay. Failing that, they offered RC a leave of absence (just like Rocks suggested) and RC decided to take them up on that deal in case he got washed out from Maverick's orientation. So he QC'd a message requesting leave from Sunday to Wednesday. If he makes it through Wednesday, he'll have a job at Maverick. If not, then he can go back to his truck at Hutchins and go back to the grind. However, THIS time his DM has promised him that he'll get his home time in North Carolina. AND not only that, his DM has been communicating with him like he's a real living, breathing person and not just a machine.
Personally, as much as I can't stand Covenant, I feel that they are finally starting to make an effort to show Redcoat that he truly is a valued employee. It's such a shame that they couldn't have made that kind of effort months ago which would have had such a healing effect for RC's morale.
For now, Redcoat made his drop in Muskogee on time and picked up his next load a day early so he could deliver it to Temple, TX today. Right now he's at the receiver in Temple spending the night and will head up to Hutchins in the morning. Then he'll rent a car for the trip up to Little Rock and I'll start a new thread of his experience at Maverick for as long as it lasts.
Oh, and Drive-A-Mack the recruiter at Maverick specifically mentioned the 10 mph under the limit rule for ramp speed for the road test. I had a long talk with him on all the stuff RC needed to do/bring for orientation and said that little screw up on the road test is a deal breaker so RC is ready for that. I read the guy's thread you mentioned and it's too bad he didn't back it down another notch as he sounds like a man with a great attitude. The Challenger Thanks this. -
..well it looks like RC is all set for the Mav orientation & from what you've told us about the meeting with the FM & his dispatcher, warming up to RC after he gave his notice, lets hope they keep the love after he leaves & not put anything derogatory on his DAC!
..now another item that RC could count as a blessing is being deassigned from that OK load, who knows it could have easily been RC getting that ticket & that's one little item RC doesn't need right now just before going to a new company!
..anyway I wish u both the best & this turns out the way RC hopes it will, that he makes it thru the Maverick oreintation, passes the road test, then it's out on the road flatbedding with his trainer.. GOOD LUCK & I'll be looking for your new thread with MAVERICK..The Challenger Thanks this. -
Well it looks like I'll be starting that new thread with Maverick after all. Redcoat officially got hired today. Y'all will have to switch over to the other side of the forum and look for my thread there.
I will now officially end this thread and quit dogging on Covenant dispatchers. I think any Covenant newbie will get the general idea of the goofiness that goes on with that company so hopefully they'll be ready for it when it happens to them.
See ya on the flip side.DXJ702 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the update RCW. I've been hoping we'd hear some good news soon. Looking forward to your new thread.

I know where RC is coming from. When i worked there, my heater went out. Did they fix it? Nope, sent me to St. Cloud, MN instead. Yelled at me for getting a room, after delivery. Sent me to Atlanta, then i bob tailed to Chatt and got ripped for it. Got me a new truck though. 3 months later i quit.

Just a heads up about a program this evening (8 pm EST) about Covenant's training practices. A friend of mine is going to be interviewed by Dan Rather (Dan Rather report). Covenant has sent us two QC msgs about it (last one at 1:15 this morning). They seem upset that one of their employees would go on camera with a list of allegations. Well, my friend has gone to them sooo many times but nothing has changed. If co. fires my friend for this, my friend will sue them. Hope you all can watch.
