I start to feel that the truck is an extension of my body.... Inseparable, like a shade... a HUGE one.... everywhere I go, it goes with me. Sometimes that's awkward but other times it's good (carrying my "home" wherever I go) Does it make sense? But anyway, I too LOVE life on the road and the fact that I don't have a home or family, helps a lot to live this lifestyle. Yesterday my friend (he is a trainer at Covenant) lost his student because the student's wife and kids were missing him a lot. His wife would call everyday crying.... and now, with the new payroll package to new drivers (they will pay even less!) the student couldn't take it anymore and after two weeks training, he stepped out of the trainer's truck and quit. The student said he used to make 500 dollars a week working in the kitchen of a restaurant in FLA and would see his family every night.... trucking is not just a job, it's a lifestyle.

out there....companies like covenant do nothing more than take advantage of their drivers and give back very little or nothing for what the driver does for them.
If I had to choose a better paying lifestyle I would be a gigolo...then I would get what I deserve and what I am worth. -

Shout out to all my friends for all the encouraging words.
Team Redcoat is on their way to Chatt. They were supposed to go from Indy to Atlanta but got rerouted. Long story there and I won't go into it but suffice to say it wasn't Redcoat's fault and he's not in trouble. I'm driving up to Chatt. in the morning to pick him up.
The good news is Redcoat is finally getting some official time off after being out on the road since the beginning of January. I think he's taking a week. That is a good thing because he can go with me to my mom's house on Monday and get his driver's license squared away and apply for his hazmat.
Speaking of my mom, she is doing real well. She has one more chemo treatment on Monday and three more radiation treatments so she'll be done on Wednesday. The cancer on her neck has shrunk down to just barely visible. The doctors made her take a week off last week because the skin on her neck was just absolutely cooked. Even though she was upset about the delay, she really needed that week to get her strength back. It is unbelievable how much the treatments just sap the energy right out of her bones.
Redcoat and I are going to enjoy some time together; maybe take in a tour of the Space and Rocket Center where I am camped out. There is also an overlook up the mountain by Monte Sano State Park just off Hwy. 431 and I plan on taking him up there one evening to watch the sunset and to check out the view of Huntsville.
So starting tomorrow this thread will be very quiet for a week while we spend some time together. I'll be back once Redcoat goes back to work unless he tells me a good story that I absolutely must share before I forget it.
Bye y'all. Back in a week! -
Good news about your Mom and RC and you! Hope you have a great time.

Do go to the space museum if you are interested in that sort of thing.
Since you will be in Chattanooga, go to the aquarium, the omni max theater, rock city, and Lookout Mountain. There is also a nice lake there just west of town on 24 where the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Station Reservoir is. There is a nice campground there, and the reservoir is something to see. You can ride an elevator from the station down through the ground to the hydro-electric generating area.
On the way back to Huntsville you should see the Sequoyah Caverns in NE Alabama. They also have a very nice campground, and extremely nice people run the place.
The things I mentioned are either very cheap, or free to do. The two trips I went there doing those things were the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations I think I have ever taken.
You go at your own pace, and there is much history, nature, and innovation all placed close together.
Looking off the mountain at Rock City is a very good way to release the tension and get that old spark back. If the camper is rocking, don't come knocking. -
Glad to know about your mom. And you guys enjoy as much as you can.
