Sorry to hear that. ALWAYS beware of ANYONE who gets a bonus for sending you to a company. If a driver truly believes in a company, they will not ask for a bonus. While this is not ALWAYS true, it is true at least 99% of the time...
Covenant. OMG we didn't know!

My son (after a pretty good 7.5 months with Covenant) is now experiencing the same thing as everyone else. He is 3000 mi (or 3 weeks) from his 6 mo post training milestone when he is supposed to get his $2500 retention bonus... but he and his co-driver are stuck in Florida.
They were out for 10 weeks, then took a pre-arranged 7 day hometime in the Tampa area (the co-driver's home). The week before their hometime started was not good in terms of miles because they were trying to find them a load to get them close to home. Their hometime was supposed to be over last Tuesday, but there have been no loads (and won't be until at least this Monday) to get them back on the road. So this is almost 3 weeks with little or no pay!
Covenant is really, really hurting for loads now....even in the temp-controlled division. It seems that everyone is sitting. Right now, they'd be happy to get a load to ANYWHERE, just to get them out of FL. My son wants to change co-drivers now so that he is not stuck in FL for hometime in the future....but has to wait to do that until he can get back to TN. -

See this is what disturbs me. Why was your son able to get his 7 days off?
There is no consistancy. This is the reason why I want to know if there is anyone that can be contacted. He spoke to his dispatcher and was told that his hands are tied, then he proceeded with the song and dance that there will be alot of office staff who will also have to work through the holiday ( yada yada). Crap I tell you...

How does that Beatles song go?
What Would You Say If I Sang Out Of Tune
Would You Stand Up And Walk Out On Me ?
Office staff, who see home every day (or night), will also have to work through
the holiday? (Makin' more money than their stranded drivers)
Awwwww ---- cry me a river!
I bet those office staff folks can idle their furnaces to stay warm,
or the air conditioner to stay cool, be they in the office, or at home.
And yet they equate office work and goin' home to a stationary bed
the same as bein' miles from NOwhere, in a cold Big truck.
Shux Howdy!
I'd send 'em a cold lookin' post card with a message on the back, readin'
Wish YOU were here.
Turkey!
It's pretty hard to soar like an eagle
when y'all are confined with a flock of
turkey buzzards.
Ya reckon.
wallbanger Thanks this. -

Thanx!
Never let it be (truthfully) said that ol' Shakey AfterShock
candy-coats bovine excrement, or steers y'all wrong.

I yam what I yam, that being a baaadd man ------->

I've been around the block a few times,
and run over more times than I prefer to remember.
But I just keep on a-tickin' and a-typin', SOMEtimes to the
chagrin of others.
Now, there ARE those who'll try to convince you that
I'm a ------->
But, I'll leave it up to you as to whether you believe 'em,
or not.

I knew there was something wrong with Covenant some 7 years ago when they tried recruiting at the driving school I went to. If more people would pay more attention to these companies recruiting tactics, they would have a pretty good idea of what to expect out of most of them. I mean come on, have you ever met a professional recruiter(or driver for that matter) from Covenant?? Didnt think so!

There is a company called Buske that is a refer company that requires that you are with a reputable company for 6 months.
I don't think even Buske considers Covenant to be a "reputable company".
The dispatcher is the low guy on the totem pole. If they can't make it happen then you go to the next person which is usually a fleet manager then the ops mng then the terminal mng and then either a VP or a regional mng.
Every driver should have the phone numbers for the chain of command at their company and have them on speed dial.
Their sister company USX gave me flak about staying home for 5 days when I was out for 6 weeks. saying they only allowed 4 days max without turning in the truck. I told them I would take one extra day off for every day I was late past 4 weeks and they never said anything about their policy after that. -
Thanks Bigblue --
I am a believer that if you don't stand for something you willl fall for anything. I guess my trucker just doesn't know how nasty Covenant will be once he returns from his ( earned ) 7 days off. I feel that he should as it was said call along the chain of command and get what he deserves. -
The thing I find so interesting is that this is supposed to be a "born again christian" company.... and they treat their employees this way?
I mean, the phrase is "what would jesus do?" and not "how would jesus exploit?" right?
