Hey, you will not be "using" anybody. You will be teaching, training and helping them, doing a service and they will be benefiting from that.I'm not sure how long you must drive with Cov. to become a trainer. I would guess at least 6 months after achieving driver status with Hazmat and no accidents. I haven't being following their latest changes with this regard. I know Big Wheels, he used to post on his own thread here but no more for lack of time and internet connection. He became a trainer at Covenant. But it took him over a year, waiting... He teamed for over a year until he was able to become a trainer.
Yes, I still drive for Cov. but I am on a dedicated account and that is sooooo different from the rest of the regular fleet that I don't follow much what is going on with them.... Sometimes I don't even listen to their weekly news...![]()
I am at a truck stop and there are 3 other Cov. trucks here. One of them is a solo driver who said he has been here since last Friday with no load!!He plans on retiring in 8 months. Then met another Cov. driver (trainee) who said he is repented of coming to Cov. His trainer sleeps while he drives and he got a chargeable while turning, clipped the fender of another truck... while his trainer was asleep in the bunker.

I appreciate all your info. I will obtain first seat driving status from day one. They are actually giving me credit for all my OTR or at least that in the last 5 years which is 5 YRS OTR lol!!! I have my Hazmat so I'm good that way... Not a newbie here lol!!!
I'll have to check on it when I get there and see what's up. They told me I will be out for 3 to 4 weeks at a shot so might as well train if I can to make some better money...
I thank you for explaining it the other way. I know I'd be helping the other driver I just know what most think of trainers just like that one that was sleeping....
I'm sure Covenant wants them to run that way and if they force it to be done then because I am confident of my personal abilities then I will sleep less and drive more when necessary for the benefit of a good student. A bad one, well, I guess there are no bad students only bad trainers lol! -
Hey there hawkeye, seems our situation is similiar to yours, interested in covenant refresher course and we are a team already.. So we assume that you have been thru the orientation already, and possibly already on the road. So glad to see your blog in the thread. So with your first hand experience, please respond: 1. How is the training procedure? 2. Did you have time in a tractor to refresh with shifting & backing? 3. Was your team driver allowed to train and work with you? Thank you for being available.
