Well it is always nice to have a plan. But then you went and said the F word. As in fairly. 6mos is a short time but treatment by the company is not what washes out most new drivers. Thats all side bar stuff to the real reason new drivers wash out. They can't handle the endless hours of boredom, the driving 500 miles plus then doing it all over again 10hrs later. the pricks they will deal with at the docks.

In short they can't do the job. If you learn to run your truck right you will have little contact with the company most of the time. If you are out on the road wanting a nine to five lifestyle and lots of hand holding you will be like many of the posts I read and whining how they did you wrong.

Utilization is my biggest complaint about OTR company's. They and the feds can waste your time and do because it costs them very little to do so.

There is 168 hrs in a week and 98 usable work hours in a 7 day period of which 70 you can log. That leaves 28 dead hrs. Of that 70hrs you will use 5hrs doing things other then driving. This leaves you with 65hrs. At a average 2500 mile week you will use 50hrs which still leaves you with 15 more hrs that means if you are doing average miles at avg speeds you will only be getting paid for roughly half the available working hrs in a 7 day period and a third of the total hrs in a week. And yes these OTR carriers will have your butt for 24/7 while you have control of their rig.

Yet when you get on the road you will be tired you will be fed up you will be hungry, you will be bored you will be hot or cold and feel like you are being put through a meat grinder because you are new and don't know diddly.

You want to be treated fairly? Ain't no such thing in a OTR truck driving under FMCSA HOS rules and company mileage pay.

I happen to know this company is full of skunks in the grass... from Jimmy Shields, Jody Maynor & Andy Vanzant. You have no choice but to eat their crap. and they know and relish it! they are all trained to screw you out of every penny they can as long as their own pockets are not affected! they tend to be wolfs in sheeps clothing. I know. we rolled 100,000 miles for covenant and have only been paid for about 80,000.00 they think its nothing but it comes out to be about $2,000.00 out of our pockets. or 160 hours of rolling for free. look at it how you wish... theft is theft!

We started at .28 per mile as well but got our hazmat endorsements and have received the safety bonus each quarter. That got us up to .36 last year and now we are up to .40. We got a message on our Qualcomm that there is another raise coming for zero to 2 year drivers in July. That will get us up to .44 plus vacation and holiday pay. Plus we just signed up for engineered route at 5300 miles per week. So if you aren't making the money here, you must not have hazmat. That's where the miles are here for teams. I wish you the best Simplemind, make of it what you want.

5300 miles for a team is low, let alone if that is "where the miles are." I'd hate to see what the low miles are.
