I've been solicited by them many times in the past. They tried to tell me a load I had called on was a 'priority load' and only established carriers with them could haul it (hauled more than 6 loads)... the load was only going to be $500 for 200 miles. I found the same load with another broker (surprise!) and they were paying $600.
Now, years later, I haven't yet ever signed a contract with them. I see a load posted online. Seems to be a favorable load (dry load, can go on a reefer), and call about it. Lady answers after being transferred from someone else's extention. Asks for MC#, and tells me we're not set up. I told her that I'd like to discuss the load a bit before signing a contract. She said she couldn't talk about the load, at all, since I wasn't set up with them. She wouldn't discuss pick-up or drop off info (not even asking for customers, but couldn't tell me exact cities, appointments, etc). I told her it was strange that I never had a broker I had yet to setup with refuse to discuss a load they've posted online.
So, I passed on it. Not worth the headache. They make TQL look like saints. -
Was it posted under Coyote?
Im guessing Coyote's main line of work is in reefer and van, they are in for a bit of a shock if their going to manage Access America's flatbed work. Most flatbeder's won't lightly be as patient to their games and BS contracts they try con you into signing so they can give you load details.
I didn't really have that issue today, I just felt the whole thing was shady.
The guy on the phone seemed shocked that I didn't seem to care he was paying $600 for 35 miles. The fact it was 10' wide I would have wanted $750 for his particular situation.
When I come across a broker like these guys, TQL or Straight who overpost the boards with $1pm freight, I take great delight when I know they are in a jam running the rate up, and then I may or may not even take it depending if the guy on the phone is ####y.
It drives them nuts if at that point you just say, nah it's not worth it, thanks anyway!

Coyote is a back-haul broker, plain and simple...
they rely to move their loads with companies who need to reposition their trucks asap...
Coyote is NOT THE COMPANY FOR AN O/O....almost all of the loads they have called me about have been about 30%-45% below the market rate.
THE FIRST YEAR IN BUSINESS, THEY MADE OVER $240 MILLION....
THEY MADE THE COVER OF "FORTUNE " MAGAZINE , I THINK IN 2011...OR 2010...
BUT, their customer service is top notch,
their quick pay program is top notch,
actually, I like dealing with them....and almost everyone I have dealt with in the past(not that often)
..has been a pleasure..........it's just their rates ( and their customers) are poor....
crusin4mer trucker and Foxcover Thank this. -
I've gotten some really good headhaul rates out of both Coyote and Access America. Yeah they push cheap rates with the best of them. They're not invincible to paying what it takes when they have to though.
281ric, BigBadBill, trees and 4 others Thank this. -
I haul for them all the time and get good rates as well. Depending on the customer they will lose money on a load to get it moved. I've gotten several loads at over $4 a mile from them this year.
They normally will pay legitimate detention without too much fuss and I like the fact that I deal with the same rep at Coyote all the time.281ric, rollin coal, BigBadBill and 1 other person Thank this. -
We deal with a couple reps at Coyote and have absolutely no complaints. We don't take anything less than what we need to do the run. Some of the stuff they broker is less than desirable so it pays to ask what it is.
-
This! Plus, the reps don't get stupid about trying to cover their loads. If they don't have the money in it to meet your quote, it's just business and they get it. Drama free. They are on my go-to short list in some areas.
Unlike their three letter competition that will go to great lengths to convince you how great their weak offer is, while telling you how to run your business.BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Glad to see others have the same prospective as me. Seeing the earlier comments I was thinking that this was a different company than I work with.
We have a dedicated person that we work with. They know what our drivers will do and don't even bother calling when they see our truck and they don't have the money in it. Compared to others that will have a bank of newbies dialing you all day on the same load, even when you don't have capacity.rollin coal Thanks this. -
I called them today Los angeles to fontan ca. 200bucks. No thank you
