Yes Dave, that definitely helps. Thanks for the info. I am working right now to get into my primary doctor's office so I can start the sleep process over again. My last sleep study was 5 years ago. I use the machine religiously every night so I"m going to bring a printout illustrating such when I go to see him. I guess then I have to see if I get approved for another sleep study and its financing. I never heard of that study where they put you in a dark room. I hope they give me a little flashlight and something to read otherwise I'll be bored to tears just sitting there in the dark. I won't fall asleep but I may just die of complete boredom. I'll find out.

Whatever I learn I'll post up here in the future. I need to contact Central and get that form for my doctor to fill out releasing me for driving.

    Take care.

At least that's what I had to do I was in a similar boat my last sleep study was 5-6 years before that. All central is tring to do is cover their a55 for the insurance by getting a doctor to sign off saying your apnea treatment is working. And the dark room test all you do is sit in the dark can't read, watch tv or anything it's to dull your senses to see if you'll fall asleep. If you don't it proves the treatment is working. I'm not sure if every dr does that or if they have different ways but my dr felt that was the best way to prove I would be safe behind the wheel. Good luck

Cool. I'm going to ask about that Dave and see if I can maybe get the same test as well. When you did the "dark room" test did you just do it there at your primary physician's office or did you have to go to a special sleep study type place to have it done? I'm hoping that I won't have to go to get another sleep study or that I'll have to wait 90 days or something. I really just want to get out there and begin training ASAP. This work I'm doing now barely pays the bills and I'm eager to just get out there do something I will enjoy.

If your primary care giver was the one who set you up with your original CPAP they can do it. Otherwise I believe it will have to be the dr who set you up with the CPAP. My pcg had me go to a specialist as I was in a small town so the specialist is who had to sign off on it since he was the last one to treat me for my apnea. Even though he hadn't seen me in over 3 years do to moving twice in that time including moving to another state I didn't have a job before central so no med insurance to get reg checkups every year with him. So yea I know where your coming from I went into the specialist told him my situation and he billed me and I paid him off after I got out on the road. If you talk to the dr explain what's going on and not lie they are more likely to work with you on payments like that. So really should go to whom ever did your sleep test and put you on the CPAP they will know what test they need to do. Good luck

Update: Went to my primary physician today. It doesn't sound like I will need another sleep study and I won't need the dark room test. At least not now. Apparently my doc was looking for how many apneas I am having a night but my printout did not show that much. My machine is just too old. Good news was that Apria Healthcare was so very gracious to loan me an updated machine that measures these things my doctor needs to see. And the loaner was free to use. Got a new(er) RemStar Auto M Series with the humidifier and heater to use. This one records the apneas/hypopneas and I'm going back in a month so he can see that it is working. From what I understand, I will have to go to the doc at least every year to have my apnea progress checked. If all goes well he should sign off on my usage and I'll be on my way to a career in trucking. Checking with Swift tomorrow on their CPAP requirements.
