    Hello,

My fiancé is a trucker with sleep apnea and he does use a CPAP machine. He has to go get his yearly DOT physical and I am extremely worried because he does not use his CPAP as much as he is supposed to. His shifts require that he is up and down and so he does not get 4 straight hours of sleep every night at all. Does anyone know, if he is non compliant can he get a 30 day card to come into compliance or what may happen??

There is no DOT requirements on CPAP use. When he goes for his physical he should not even mention that he has Sleep Apnea. Check out :http://www.ooida.com/ReviewDoc/

He already has it on his record as having sleep apnea and so they are asking for the last years records. I am so worried that if he is not compliant that he will be fired. That would ruin us financially. I am so stressed and sick to my stomach. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

If your fiance has been diagnosed with sleep apnea and is required to use a cpap but never gets 4 hrs of sleep in a night because of his job means he probably isn't going to live long anyway. 4 hours is the minimum to be compliant. Just 4 a night. If diagnosed this is extremely easy to be compliant. He just doesn't want to use his and it's apparent. since last year the physical is very strict concerning if you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Eventually it will catch up to him one way or another.

Are you aware if it has to be 4 continuous hours or can it be in increments that add up to 4 hours??

Continuous. 4 hours per night. And you must use it on 70% of the days of the month.

    Hello,

So let me ask... Lets say he sleeps from 8pm until 4am the next day. Does this count for the 4 hours for 2 days or does it need to be 2 separate 4 hour intervals?

    Thank you so much!!!!

4 hours a day. His cpap machine records his use. They will ask for the downloaded printout. You can't get around this.

If he doesn't get this minimum he really needs to find a new profession. Drivers need to sleep.

I understand that it needs to be 4 hours a day... He would get 4 hours in 2 days if he slept from 8PM until 4am the next morning, correct? Thanks.
