I'm going to get it for this. If you expect sleep, and be a real Trucker better forget it. Hours are sad at best, no set hours. Your on call 24/7. Or you starve. Lots have gone home. The rest feed America. You got a sleeping disorder, don't drive. Way it is.

Untreated sleep apnia is a disqualifying disorder... with a machine it is considered treated and they monitor compliance by reading an SD card inserted in the machine.

Many of the companies that ( mine included) are screening people based on certain indicators such as BMI, neck size, age and a few others.

I got flagged tested and have the machine... no big deal. I actually sleep worse with it, but I am the exception I think... I wake up every hour or so.

A very good friend of mine died from Apnia 3 years ago... I do take it serious.

Out of curiousity, why do you sleep worse with it?

I know it took a little adjustment getting used to mine but once I got in the habit of strapping that whole head gear thing on and the sensation of air blowing down your nose I got used to it. I do think it can be kind of uncomfortable if your nose is stuffed up and you have the type, like mine, that attaches just to the nose. On most of them you can adjust the air pressure or they "ramp up" to the prescribed air pressure making it a little easier to bear. It is a PITA but I think those of us with this stinkin disorder absolutely need it for our health and quality of life. That sucks that you wake up every hour or so though. I wonder if the machine is shutting off on you when it gets slightly twisted, as it is programmed to do, causing you to get air then not get it. Mine will beep loudly and shut off if I break the seal on it around my nose. As you probably already know when you are not getting rest you can still function to some degree but not as well as when your body is truly rested. I never understood this until I started getting rest. I was surprised how much my mood improved, how much more alert I was and how I started to drop weight like crazy. I never knew how bad I was since I have lived with this all my life untreated and just grew accustomed to not getting any real rest. The only time I really hated mine was when I was still with my wife and well it almost got in the way of "fun time". It probably wasn't the most attractive thing to strap on but what do I care I'm not with her anymore anyway!

The problem I have with it Doc is that I use the full mask and if it shifts slightly it starts blowing aif into my eye. That is hard to sleep with. Other than that it has been two months now with the machine and I still wake up multiple times a night. I usually.make sure I have had it on for the required 4 hrs and then take it off to be honest. They read my card at 30 days and said I was 96% compliant so I'll just keep doing what ai am doing zi guess.
