Relocate it. It's just hanging in there by the cables that attach to it. Move it over behind the glove box or down by the floor or something.

Why did you need a tow? Couldn't Freightliner just sell you a new one and program it for you?

How much did they charge for the new CPC? Are they still hard to get?

Yeah, safety torx. I use them for this very purpose. One can never truly eliminate the risk, as even if you're in the truck, on the highway, crap will attempt to take what you have. But any small step to reduce the risk of loss, lowers the chances of said loss.

Some friends of mine love southern BBQ, and travel the south on vacation quite a lot. Not sure where they get their info, but long ago they were told, when in the larger cities, to park their car under the street lights, take everything (everything) with them into the hotel, and leave the glove box open. Don't even leave a towel on the seat that may look like it's covering something of value. Sure enough, one morning they arose to find their car was the only one not hit.

I've never held or even seen up close a CPC, but I'd imagine they are like all electronic stuff, can not be opened. It'd be great if there was a way to put an air tag in one.

July my CPC stoppped working overnight, parked in my driveway.
Called Freightliner dealer they had a new one in stock. They put a generic software package in it.
I drove my car to get the new one. Returned home to put it in my truck. Then I drove my truck to the dealer and they updated the new CPC to the old parameters.
Total cost was $1,800. $1,600 for the CPC, $200 for the software.

A small flat tip will defeat these . Like those with a shirt pocket clip or an eyeglasses screwdriver

That's actually what the Freightliner guys suggested. They said they could relocate it but didn't. I don't think it would be that difficult to do. Just running the wires somewhere else. Maybe in the glove compartment box. The thieves cut the wires so they had to be spliced back together. That's why it had to be towed and yes they programed it. They had several new cpc's in stock.

Actually the freightliner dealership I had my truck towed to said they had 17 cpc's stolen from there lot when they first opened. They said they ended up hiring a detective who put trackers on the cpc's and they ended up catching them through this method. Said they tracked them all the way back to there apartment. Got everything back and then some. Said they haven't had any problems since.

There was a theft ring that got busted last year for stealing alot of cpc's in Houston. But im sure that wasn't the only one. You have to be careful and stay away from McCarty Rd, Market Rd, Thompson Rd, the Key Truck stop, and a few other areas around H-town.

Cat converter, CPC, and certain types of car theft have been way up since late 22 in H-town.

When a thief encounters those that's when they break out the crowbar and destroy the dash.

Once upon a time theives who screwed with caravans would have both hands and feet removed. There are days i wonder if maybe we should bring back that practice. Being soft on crime with criminals at worst spending years getting 3 hots free medical care and a cot seems to have only allowed the problem to fester.
