That should tell you something. I know more than a few that have been involved in fatalities. Its bar none, the hardest thing to get past. And they were not at fault.

It's responses like this that illustrates to me exactly why you got what was coming your way. This isn't how a professional acts towards other professionals, even if they made a mistake. And the fact you are trying to tell people how this job works only having 6 months experience goes to show you don't have much of a future in this industry.
I'm almost 18 months in now and still know nothing. I took a trip over the last few days that taught me more about running off-road and on very steep hills than I was never taught in school or by my mentors. I went in not being a know-it-all and came out a better driver as a result.
As soon as we know everything there is to know about trucking, is the time we should hand in the keys.Toomanybikes and spyder7723 Thank this. -
My dad said that the first time he saw a cup holder in a car. LOLMidWest_MacDaddy and street beater Thank this.

And more importantly, learn from those mistakes as to avoid them in the future.

Thats pretty much where his option are at this point.
To be fair,.. I have worked the 1099 side of things and I did very well. In fact,.. as an O/O now,.. I am still with the original carrier where I was a company driver working as a 1099.
Not all 1099 companies are out to screw the driver.
Chances are he is going to have to suck it up and start from the very bottom,.. deal with some pretty asinine company owners. They may even push him into working harder and doing things that 1099 companies are infamous for doing to drivers. I dealt with it with the first 1099 company I worked for. The owner was a tyrant and I was very miserable there. How ever,.. I did learn some not so legal but very helpful things that I wont discuss here.
I kept my nose clean,.. I survived,.. and I am doing very well these days.
My advise to rookies in this industry is to look at the over all picture. Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs time? What are your end goals? The biggest fear for rookies is not fully understanding this industry. its what we dont know that we fear those most. Simply driving the truck and becoming comfortable behind the wheel is not enough. Dont do stupid things that can come back later to haunt you.
Some guys jump into trucking and do very well. They have the work ethic and mindset to succeed. They are the type of person that it doesnt really matter what career choice they make,.. they are going to be successful no matter what. Thats the kind of person they are. Where other drivers are the kind of person who could gross $100k a year and still end up living week to week, stuck in a trailer park so deep in dept they would be better off in bankruptcy and starting over from scratch. They will never be successful no matter how much money they make. Stupid is,.. as stupid does.
