Never look at any companies CPM rate ... it's usually BS.

Even the "better" companies can shave as much as 10% due to discrepancies in map routes and "real world" truck routes.

The advertised CPM is just an advertising gimmick.

Also remember that some of the top CPM co's make you put up with the most BS ... there was a great list here in the trucker advice section I think about all the questions to ask recruiters, I'll try to find it.

92 Days out for me and Waist Deep in CRE Crap. And if there is one thing i have learned is that CrE is one Ugly Company. With that said,i will say that one can make their way through the the Piles of CRE Crap. All one has to do is be Smart, Observe,Listen and learn on your own, tell themselfs that its all good, in Six Months ill be outta here and will be in the Clover and not in the Scrub(well maybe).
My advice is if CRE is the only Option and you just have to Drive, then Stay the Hell away from the "Lease Purchase" BS and go for the Second Seat Team Option,it aint good but at least you aint got the Lease umbilical from Hell either .

They want Team Drivers, they cant get enough it seems. Maybe your Hubbie should Swallow a bit of his Pride and Talk to his Whip master and ask for a Second seat. Like i said if one really wants to Drive a Truck but has limited Options, then one will have to take what one can get and Smile. :biggrin_25525:

Now I'm just a wanna be driver, getting ready for school, but isn't the mileage pay your talking about per load, not per week? I wouldn't want to work for a company that gave me less than 700 miles per week. In your scenario # 51 cents per mile under 700 mi. Your weekly gross would be less than $350. Sounds like a part time job to me.

One of us has a grave misunderstanding of how this pay per mile works. Would one of you experienced drivers like to clarify this for us wannabe's?

Sorry Half a load I just looked back and profile and saw that you have 25 years experience. Didn't mean any disrespect. Now I am even more confused. I thought I understood the pay at least. Anyone want to chime in and set me straight.

As a student you don't get paid per mile...you get a set amount per week of training. Most are between $350.00 and $400.00 per week, for the first two weeks, a slight increase ($50.00) for the second two weeks (each week) and the final two weeks another $50.00 increase each week. Now the trick is that these "weeks" are figured on working a minimum amount of time each day...so in reality the student gets paid on a daily basis...and if the trainers truck isn't under dispatch, the student doesn't earn any $$$ for the days not under dispatch.

Now as a SOLO driver, on the company side, some companies have a sliding pay scale...under 100 miles (the trip) gets a higher rate per mile (say $0.51), over 100 but less than 250 another rate ($0.35), and anything over 250 miles will get the max rate (according to experience time) and for a new solo driver that is, at most training companies between $0.26 and $0.30 cents per mile. These "miles" are figured by often times, Rand McNally, or Movers Guide road miles...not what the truck ACTUALLY travels to get from point A to point B.

Team pay is less than individual solo driver pay, but is paid to the total miles of the truck, not the miles one driver drives vs. what the second driver drives. then the total miles paid is split down the middle and paid to each driver. Some companies split the miles in half and pay each driver of the team, according to the experience level of each driver. So if Driver 1 has 5 years experience he will get about $0.38 cpm...and Driver 2 has 1 year experience, he will get $0.30 cpm.

Any company that pays on a "sliding" pay scale earns The Rollover the Orginal "BFI" award!
If I were to call about a job and that word "sliding" came out of their mouth I know whats getting slid and where! I just don't swing that way so no thanks!

I can't even find a program that shows pay on a "sliding" scale and I guess I can figure out how to set it up on excel but, WHY? Why do those BFI companies think they should pay you on that scale? OH, I know so they don't have to pay you an honest rate! Sounds like that per diem scam!

Naah If BFI has to slide it to you to pay ya there is someone else out there worth working for than them!

    Half a Load Thanks this.

I can't imagine working for those rates!!! I'd be ashamed of myself if I owned that company! My second job was with Old Dominion in the mid-90's, starting at $0.36/mile team 100% drop and hook! Got paid for EVERY hook! To drop a set of doubles and hook up two more took me and my co-driver about 20 minutes and paid $35.00 Last I heard, he was up to $0.68/mile. I couldn't take sleeping in a moving truck!
You can make more money working at McDonald's or a WalMart greeter and not have to put up with as much crap!
If you can't make at least $50,000 driving, it's time to move on!:smt021:smt084:smt062:banghead::boxing:
