There are two things prospective training companies want: CDL and 160 hours training. I have seen two persons that did exactly what you're proposing as far as getting the CDL...paid CRE cash.
They got their CDL, but none of the other training companies recognized CRE's training as having met the 160 hour requirement. Both of these persons ended up taking a 'refresher' course (at their cost) in order to become employable. I took my refresher course with both of these guys. (I was not a CRE person. I had retired from trucking for three years and had to complete a refresher course to return to driving)
I think you would get a lot more satisfaction with beating your head against the wall than trying the CRE route...and it's less painful.

If you live in SLC maybe it isn't such a bad idea. You can go home every night and if you are booted you aren't stranded. Also the financing they give is very good APR wise. Of course cash is king as Dave Ramsey would say.

All these companies that train are rats. There really are no exceptions. Consider finding a local tech school state run. Also contact Crete. If you can swing it they accept trainees out of Lincoln, NE community College. REAL training without bankruptcy followed by a REAL company that will do right by you. Whatever you decide good luck.
Now where is that steak I cooked in my 12v stove!!

TY Emulsified...already decided not to go that route, but thanks for that point of view, didnt even thank of that.

Izifaddag..no i live in northwest indiana, was going to go to the Gary school, which is local and i would be home everyday, but after everything i read i think i would reather be away from the family for a few weeks and go to driving soloutions or something.
