I heard Roehl, Celadon, PRIME, Knight and Maverick are the best places for new drivers to start? Any truth to this? CR England, Werner, Swift, USA and Stevens are one to only look into if you have experience. Thanks for any help you can give.

CR, Werner, and Swift are crap if you're a new driver. The guys I've met that drive for USA Truck seem to like the company, and I don't know much about Stevens. I've heard good things about Maverick, Celadon seems to have some very well maintained equipment which usually indicates that the company gives a crap. Prime seems ok, but if you're not a lease operator you'll be running 58mph, and take it from someone governed at 63, it gets old fast.

Well, I pull a flat for Maverick, and love it. They are a really really good outfit. And they have the TCD- Temperature Controlled (Reefer) division if flatbedding is not your calling. I would say that Crete, Celadon, Millis, and Prime all seem like good van companies. Good looking well maintained equipment, which does seem to indicate that they run a good show- like another poster just said.

What is the fastest company to work for as in the speed of their trucks. 58 is what I heard for PRIME reefer and several others around 60. I see trucks driving 70-80 miles and hour on route 80/90 toll road in Ohio all the time. Are these owner operators? I know MPG is very important but time seems like it would be too and 10 hours at 58 = 580 miles max vs 70 @ 700 miles further down the road seems to be a major consideration if you are trying to get in the miles as fast as you can each week. Any comments would be great. THANKS AGAIN

JXU417 how long have you been with Maverick? They are on my short list and I just applied with them. Any advice you have would be great. Did you train with them? How is the pay and the miles vs home time etc.

Well, I have been with Maverick since Nov. 2011. My first driving job straight out of CDL School. Best decision I have ever made. As far as pay info at the Newbie/Student level: http://www.maverickusa.com/driving-jobs/student-program

There are ALOT of Maverick threads on here too. I recommend these for anything and everything that you can possibly have questions about: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr.../101564-heading-for-little-rock-maverick.html

If you have not yet spoken to a recruiter, call and ask for Mason. I promise you that he is a good guy and will shoot straight with you. Good luck!

Oh, and my truck goes 69 mph.... I usually run at 58 though for good mpg numbers (for the bonus $$$) and for safer driving of course.

Faster truck won't do anything but get you in trouble in some areas....the key to making $$$ is to keep that left door closed...I see fast trucks pass me all the time 3-4x's a day and still end up parked at the same place I parked at end of day...so where did the fast truck help out?

The 25 cents a mile pay is truck miles. As in the total miles the truck runs.
