You have to pay $37.00 a day to the student why? The whole thing is insanity. You assume all the risks and they reap all the $$$. Are you "encouraged" to promote leasing?

My first go around I the trucking world back in 1994, I started with CRE. At the time they only had company drivers and the one yard in SLC. The housing consisted of construction trailers with rows of bunks and a shower room / bathroom at one end. They provided meal tickets as part of your training costs, redeemable at the Red Rig cafe, which was another trailer. I had recently came out the Army, so none of it was too shocking to me, but looking back it was a pretty crappy set up for your future employees. I was paid a flat rate of $300 training pay while with the trainer, when I was done and went solo I started at .21cpm. They treated us decently and I thought that the training was good.

My how the times have changed.

Yes, you are encouraged to promote leasing to your students. If your student decides to lease you'll get a $100 bonus.

Great post , My girlfriend is working for them right now she left on June 23rd for Gary IN got her CDL A on July 24th and went into phase 1 on the 26th . I try and tell her about these post but they have her brain washed . She has been gone from home now for 53 days an I don't see her coming home anytime soon ( we live in Maine on NH border ) . They told her when phase 1 is done she can come back to Gary IN an they will send her home on a bus so she can change her lic back here and they will pick her up here in Maine for Phase 2 . I just hope our relationship can take 9 months of there lies I'm a local driver for another year and we plain on teaming up once she finishes with them .

The point you made about leasing their trucks was the same thing I've heard from several other truckers I've met. If you lease a truck with CRE, expect to file for bankruptcy.

wow, great post! thanks for laying it out plainly. oftentimes people complain about companies without explaining the pertinent details about why a company sucks. I will never work for CRE!

Dang... Earlier this year before I decided to get my CDL on my own accord through a smaller school, I planned on going with CR England. I'm glad I didn't because I don't want to lease a truck or deal with all the stress you speak of. I recently got accepted (barely turned 25 y/o in October) for a local flatbed job delivering and picking up big steel bars for construction and aerospace. They're going to train me for a few weeks before they let me go on my own, so I hope to learn and practice as much as possible before then. I'm glad I decided to be patient instead of signing up with CR England or somewhere similar... :(

Do you know how many drivers, many of them with millions of safe miles started like that? If you are a trainer with experience you can tell in 1 driving shift how much supervision they need. I have had some students who where fine from day 2 running team and some who had to be watched close for a couple of weeks.
There are lots of experienced drivers who drive worse then most of the trainees i have had. They have a 4 wheeler mindset yet they drive a truck. Always excessively speeding, piss poor lane control, weaving in and out of traffic, racing from t/s to t/s. They are as dangerous as any new driver.

They were paying you in 94 what they paid in 90 when i started. Thats why i went to KLLM and not CRE. They paid a penny more a mile. Times may change, but OTR pay has dropped 18% and avg miles 1200 to 2000 a month. Yet these companies whine about a driver shortage.

Sounds like the CEO and board of directors at c r England ought to be kicked out. I witness more stupidity from their drivers than any other company, they are even worse than the idiots at western express from what I've seen.

"As a Phase 1 Trainer (i.e., Senior Trainer)"

Wow. Not a dig at you, but England considers you a "Senior Trainer" with just one year of driving experience? What a company.
