Don't blindly listen to people... before you work PUT IN THE WORK into research!
Look up CSA scores, training problems, pay etc etc and compare it to other companies.

For one example Earl Handerson pays freaking .35 CPM for 4 years experience.. it's right on their site. That's certainly way below average.
Noobs coming out of school are getting paid more than that right off the bat and getting the miles as well.

For an FYI with 7 months experience I got .43 at Crete/Shaffer and would have went to .48 Jan 1st. I got the miles there also and I'm not just saying that because I work there because I don't anymore.
If you're gonna work somewhere don't settle for below average wages.. there's many good companies out there and many bad ones too which is why homework is very important.
I do agree that CR England is terrible.. I met a driver there getting .29 with nearly two years experience and he complained about not getting miles.

 

Come out west. Some of these companies would rather kill themselves than pay .35 a mile out here.

They never do, We should start with the Opposite Approach. CRE is the best, Labor intensive tail gating loads and Company Drivers have to change their tires ( $1.25 bonus per tire ). Obviously Negative Facts still draw in the crowds. Time for some sillyness

 

Cents per mile doesn't mean too much really. I was making .36 cents per mile with all my experience, but my annual pay was $65K.
wcherron can't work for Crete because he isn't a CDL school grad. He can make good money with a trucking company school if he runs coast to coast. Not everyone has cash for a private school or even $500.00 tuition down payment for some trucking company schools. He needs something that fits his budget and needs to get started ASAP. That's what I see from reading his posts.

CPM isn't the whole story yes.. a smart move is going into a good LTL gig like ABF, .58 CPM.. paid for drop and hook, fueling etc, paid sick days, sleep in hotels, paid health insurance, pension etc etc AND ABF trains noobs http://careers.abffreight.jobs/job/Driver-Training-School--Road-Driver/J3F5PG60K82SRYMKN2K

 

The ABF ad says: "This position involves attending an ABF approved Driver Training School.
Upon proper completion of the program, attendees will perform the functions of a Road Driver (Over-the-Road)."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't sound like ABF runs their own school, and it sounds like once you have passed an "approved school" (apparently from their approved list), then they will hire you. If I'm correct, this would be no different than attending a Private school (which most don't have the money for) and graduating, after which time you could pick from MANY companies.
