As a Trainer if there was a Particularly Dangerous Situation I would put the truck in, no one wants to have a accident. And yes I have had a bumper and front end ripped off one fine evening inside a freaking truckstop. THAT was a interesting day long ago. Here I am with a ruined tractor having to call in wondering if the Shop on premises will have the parts to put humpty dumpty together again.

All my other trainers all said three things, Don't get caught, don't break anything and don't kill anyone. When they went to bed leaving me with 3 feet of mountain snow across two states due in Kentucky by Sunrise...

And yes people have this horrible habit of putting large objects where they don't want big trucks to hit a building etc. We don't hit em, just sort of rub against them slowly enough and gently enough to get in. They hate that.

Stopping to hop out and look would be good as the others have said.

There has been a rash of accidents this month that is being discussed in the forum. There is not much I can do or say to comfort you newbies because the Industry is very cruel to anyone who makes a boo boo the first year. People make boo boos. I get that. But Companies are less patient with boo boos costing money. So they fire you. It's not the same as yelling at you in a very small room for 2 hours with a policeman friend in there with you working a pair of handcuffs in a implied threat while they strip three weeks of your payroll to pay for your latest boo boo years ago. They just fire people these days. Instead of having you work off your sins and go forth grateful you still have a job.

The last time I was up there in Chicago, there is a little stop in Calumet downtown or close to it. Two parasites had a problem or issue with me and my truck. So we had a little go around. A bit of tire thumper knocking on them solved the problem along with the loss of hot coffee applied liberally to at least one of them. I wont be back and neither will the spouse.

Seems like every one of these threads devolve into how trainers aren't really trainers and how student-trainer teams are an offense to the Gods of trucking.

The only thing the trainer did wrong here was snitching on this kid over a minor crack in the bumper.

    SCREW THAT!

"TEAM" with one guy in training means your trainer is in the seat next to you, not catching up on sleep! If he was doing his job chances are he would have seen that coming and stopped you before it happened.

The incident was late last month. I have completed my training a couple of days ago by passing the final driving and backing test at the terminal and now have my own truck. I have already told swift headquarters that the turn at that particular warehouse most likely isn't meant for tractor trailers because there is a guard rail there put in place by either the ware house I was delivering too or the auto shop next door and the corner is already super tight. Numerous trucks have gone that route because that rail had taken a beating as well as the yellow poles next to it. The Qualcomm tells me to take the turn I had the incident with and that is the same turn my mentor took and even he admitted that his turn wasn't perfect. After he got done with the delivery, he took the other entrance instead of going the way he came from. The other entrance is actually an exit so that is why I couldn't go the other way. I am going on google maps and will post a photo of the turn.

I am basically wondering if this incident will affect me from being hired from other companies when I decide to move on.

I really tried man. I'm only 21 and just didn't want an incident so early. I do great with backing and driving in traffic, but that turn behind that warehouse really hurt me and the crack wasn't even all that bad. It was only about a foot long on the passenger side

Oh no? Please explain in detail how your supposed to be "trained" or "mentored" buy a guy thats in a bunk sleeping! I could really give a crap less about Swift's definition or their procedure. I live in the real world, so does the OP who now has a preventable because the guy who's supposed to be looking out for him wasn't.

Your trainer should have covered that one for you. There's no way I would have reported one of my students for something that minor.

I don't do courses, I went out and trained them best I knew how. Not all of them made it through second interview or sometimes the first hour in the cab for a variety of reasons. Training to me means no sleep until trainee is doing well.
