I've used the CrackerJack driver reference before. IL is a good example with their fake CDL's.
Cap't Crunch is another way to get that license with a picture of a giraffe or gorilla. Down in the address it has Anytown, USA.

Dave's got it right. What I resent the most is the laziest some of the new drivers take and think they can do everything from a computer. They stop learning after the so called school and are basically a huge hazard on the road. Back in the day you were taught by the old timer and he put his name on your training. If you were a screw up then it looked bad on him. Maybe that's why a lot of us old timers got slapped in the back of the head when we made mistakes.
We had to know the truck when in todays world a lot of new drivers can not even trouble shoot a problem. Forget defensive driving, I don't think that's even taught nowadays. So maybe you can understand when we talk about a professional driver it just doesn't mean he's getting paid for what he's doing.BigJohn54, 4wheelJoshua, dave26027 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm a gamer. Have been for years. (HUSH). We use two terms to delineate the people that are new to any given game. Newb and Noob. The Newb is someone who is new, willing to learn, and serious about what they are doing (real life, as well as game.) Noobs are those that come in start trash talking immediately and complain when someone calls them on their BS.
I think that no matter what the venue, there are both types of new people out there. Sure, JCW is out there to earn a paycheck. But he's respectful, quiet (don't mistake that for snobery, the man just doesn't talk much) and willing and able to learn. Of course, he IS 45 years old, ex-military, and an honorable man whose first priority is to do right by his family. That makes a huge difference.
I see single guys on here every day. I've got no family, no bills, wanna make a ton of $$ yadda yadda yadda. I'm sure they can make it work. IF they want it bad enough. I'm not knocking you single guys. There are a few of you that are serious, and enjoy your work.
The economy is bad all the way around. People need to feed their families, and keep their homes. Some think that trucking will do that. For some, it will; for some, it won't. JCW sounded surprised that he was enjoying himself. I have no doubt that he will succeed, because he is determined to. -
"teasing NooB's is supposed to shame them into not making stupid mistakes"
I don't care if you're in the military, working construction, working the counter at Blockbuster, or a firefighter... that's what happens on EVERY job...
Why should it be any different in trucking. Just like in high school, the seniors give crap to the freshmen, just like they got from the seniors when they were freshmen. -
This is to the OP about sponsored training,
You will be treated like an idiot for doing it because there are thousands of posts and threads on here about why those companies suck, and how quickly they can ruin your career or at the very least ruin your onion of trucking.
So it annoys us when new guys come on talking about how its all about attitude and whatever and then come back on here crying about how you got screwed.
Suck it up spend your money on a cdl school like the rest of us
American Trucker4wheelJoshua Thanks this. -

It is so much worse now in terms of training. When I got mine, had the couple weeks yard/permit time, took the test, past and sent of the road for three weeks with a trainer. Then when that time was up, another 3-weeks with a lease driver. What is crazy about all this - with 6-months experience you could become a trainer. And when they handed you your keys to your leased truck after a grand total of 6-weeks actual driving time you could get someone to ride with you. Talk about the blind leading the blind.
