I agree...just hear them out before jumping the gun. Craigslist can be your best friend, or your worst enemy depending on the topic. I get about 70% of my business off CL from homeowners that buy/sell equipment that need it transported from point A to B...but it took me a while to be able to develop a sense of who is legit and who is full of you-know-what.

Another joke with CL is the ads that JB Hunt "re-words" and posts mulitple listings for. They are desperate for drivers in certain areas like here in Western Mass. and elsewhere, so they have to play the deceit card to lure guys in. You develop a skill to detect them pretty quickly after getting 5 calls and emails a week from the recruiters.

There's some decent jobs on there, don't give up your search. Of course there's always going to be those offers trying to convince you that times are tough, and YOU need the job more than they need you. If that's so...then why are they advertising on CL in the first place, right?

Heck, I just got reunited with my old carrier from 2004 on CL a few weeks ago. He had an ad looking for an owner operator in my area to work...I answered the call and next thing you know, I bought another used truck and headed to work for him again 10 years later. The timing was just right for both of us, so I decided to jump back in. CL has been good to me in general, but again, gotta weed out the waterheads.

Hand has a good point. Rather than being a douche and laughing at him, hear him out. You know what's great about being respectful, and actually listening to people? You won't burn bridges, and you may find a gold mine. The last thing you want to do in ANY field is burn bridges. You never know when you're going to need something else or your job crumbles underneath you. Be smart about these things. Who knows what good can come from it.

That's all true, CL can be helpful, I mean, where else can you find a concentration of local jobs in your area. The problem with CL, is it's overwhelming. I mean, on Milwaukee CL the other day, there were 186 transport openings, and over 3 pages on CL Chicago (that's 300 openings), that's more than ANY other job category. Granted, like dubja900 says, some ads are repeated with different words, but even still, how do you make a choice when there are so many openings. And 3/4 of them are OTR or O/O. To me, it's amazing that there is lettuce on our shelves at all.

I called about a job on Craigslist once and said "I have some questions about the position." The guy on the phone asked "what is your name" so I told him my first name then he said "what's your last name." Then I said "right now I am just gathering information," he then bursted out "since you don't want to tell me your name call someone else!" I said "I will" and hung up thinking what the heck was that about.:dontknow: Otherwise CL has been very good to me.

Yeah maybe I could have heard him out a little more. I'll remember that next time. I'm really just testing the waters now seeing if there's anything out there.

Even if that is true, Buster Brown sick pay, insurance, paid holidays, vacation pay, pension and sheer job security will trump that $100 dif and then some.

Hi DTB, see, and they wonder why they're looking for drivers. Can you imagine actually working for that person? He wanted the jump on you so he could enter your name in the computer and see what came back. I would have done the same thing. A wise person told me a long time ago, and it's still true, if a company is looking for drivers, that means someone else got pissed off and quit.:yes2557:

I'm going to check out a job from craigslist tomorrow or Monday. It's for a recycling company mostly walking floors. Also ability to learn how to run machinery. I'm worried not all year round work up here. They also do land clearing and demolition.

Not debating which job is or is not better....the statement was made in response to the OP about hearing the man out after finding out the mileage pay was low....just used the Buster Brown basic dayrate for comparison.......comprende?
