1099 means you are gonna bend over and take it hard from the tax man.

Usually 1099 should be avoided. About 80% of the companies paying on a 1099 are misusing the IRS tax laws but they haven't gotten caught by the IRS, yet. You should be saving about 25% of every settlement/"paycheck" so you have the money to pay all the taxes later. Most newbies spend every penny from their checks, like an employee, and only learn how much they owe to the IRS and the state when they file their 1040 tax form the next April. You are responsible for paying all income taxes, all Social Security taxes (I think you pay twice the employee Soc Sec tax rate as a 1099). You will only have Workers Comp insurance if you buy it. You are not eligible for unemployment as a 1099. You will only get health insurance if you buy it.

The only way to know is to talk to current drivers working there right now. The ads can say anything. They are not promises. Would they have numerous empty trucks if they were paying for all of the truck expenses and paying each drive$3-4k per week. Maybe the ad forgot to mention you buy the fuel or maybe they are making up everything. Never work anywhere until you talk to current drivers working at the company.

    This isn't Chicago. It's Phoenix.
Besides what others mentioned. You pay Medicare. Yes you pay alot.
I'd estimate that 3 to 4k looks interesting. Perhaps realistic. You'll end up with much less. But still a good pay.
People don't realize how much a company pays for a W2 employee. It's much more than you imagine.

I work for a Chicago company that pays like that…it’s no joke but of course you have to hustle for it… a lot of sleepless days & nights long miles hauling produce…really illegal #### that I have to do for the dollar bill…companies are out there it’s all up to you how you wanna feed your family…work for jb hunt Schneider Werner etc or the small guy with 50 or 60 trucks who don’t mind sharing his money with a few loyal employees…
