I absolutely HATE "Saran wrap" on any open deck load. I don't trust it. It ends up peeling off in the wind and stringing out behind you. I nearly took the head off a motorcycle rider last year, parked at a stop light with a hard wind from my left. I had about 20' of Saran wrap blowing out into the travel lane to my right as I was sitting in a left turn lane. That was after about $20 of Gorilla tape to keep it together.

Shrink wrap or "Saran wrap" is a joke. It will not stop a 600 lb plus barrel from getting away. You still have to cinch wrap around those four barrels AND apply enough cross strapping to keep them in place.

Well, i disagree. The wrap we use is strong enough to keep a entire pallets worth of random stuff so tight, that you can brake hard on a fork, have it roll off onto its side, then use the fork to stand it back up. Quality wrap, done tight, then taped off will not go streemer, and is strong as ####. We use it every day. Still use proper wll ect.. bellys and chokes ect.. but wrap is very useful to us.

We had a genius about 8 years or so ago who thought that with wire reels.

The guys who had to go out and get those off the side of the highway didn't agree with his assessment.

I was usually present during the wrapping, and the drums were banded as well. 1 and 2 drums to a pallet also work, but are more of a pain to secure.

I followed this in OKC earlier this week.

Every time he hit a rough patch on I-40 I thought that scissor lift would come off. It was jumping all over the deck.

@Lepton1 : Was there any securement at all? I would have called the cops. That thing could kill someone.

I know people who can do that sort of thing and get away with it...never lose anything and never get pulled over...just one uneventful trip after another. I, on the other hand, wouldn't make it 1/2 a block before I'd have 6 cops fighting over who gets to write me up. Every time I help the farm hand load anything on the trailer...vehicle, tractor, equipment, etc...he makes the comment when I'm done "That's probably going to be the most secure thing on the road..." No point taking short-cuts when you've got my luck...especially when I know better.
