It does not matter anymore.
I ran three paper logs to scratch out a savings in addition to just living.
Those days are ended forever. My last illegal load involved taking a virtual 7 day off time. I ran two complete loads in that time. Absolutely off log. That was the height and worst of my sins as far as illegal logging.
When the tractor turned up needing two oil changes of rotella in 40 days.... you know #### well that thing has been rolling. So the second change was paid for cash, it did not happen provided that servicing did not get into any one computer. (Big wrench, bolt off, pour. Dispose of big buckets of oil in autoshop's oil capture system, go back pour gallons of oil after big bolt is back on, wipe all down let's go.)
Today's internet all computers have two unique numbers that identify them both on the hardware used and also online that records the addressing system with date and timestamps within the data packets back and forth to your machine.
Anyone with sufficient time can trace anything, anyone and any computer at any time. Even your hard drive retains the record of sites visited, search terms and anything else you touched into the keyboard. DOD wipe standards is a pass 7 times across each sector on the hard drive platters. and even then it's not a sure thing.
Creeping around ?

Another gripe every time you look up some loud mouth is posting about buying a pre 99 truck to keep paper. Now what kinda harm can that do to a guy like me that has run old iron since way before the words ELD and mandate ever got used in a sentence together. No I am not worried in the least about a logging device. What if it was decided that pre99 can't be used in any application where a log book is needed. So then I have to go buy some one else's junk sink countless dollars in it to be in compliance. When I own 2 #### nice trucks as it is. Both are set up the as far as drive train. I have knowledge, spare parts out the wazoo most of all I am not in debt. So how would that be right?
I am not a conspiracy theorist by any means. I even think surely that would never happen. However can we be sure? I have seen lots of changes I would never have dreamed of since way back whenx1Heavy and Justrucking2 Thank this. -

What does kill me is that States or Uncle Sam is talking about if not actually going through a process to ban old iron as I understand it. Trucks old enough to run on paper will simply not be able to be registered. Gliders (Trucks with a certain model year engine or older) will not be tagged, registered etc for on road use. In short, a whole segment of trucking will go to the scrap pile by Government Decree. And all the spare parts with them.
I sort of have a problem with that. Destroying a industry so that the remaining survivors will be tracked electronically by computer.
It is not the HOS compliance I am stressing about. It's the industry's shippers, dispatch, recievers etc that MUST change to accomodate the trucker who is out of hours for the day and will need a additional amount of days to get that delivery lawfully within HOS, including a 34 hour reset if necessary.
Everything will slow down. Maybe spot shortages to begin. Profits will fall a certain amount. But there will still be profit.
It's almost like a diet.
Does that make sense? -

Now the "Old Iron " is running just like everyone else used too. It will come to an end when something goes wrong in my opinion.
We have company terminals 100 % E-log now while the commission terminals are all still on paper. Looks like a double standard to my eye.
