CRETE - A Year in Review

I don't post too often, but my husband drives for Crete and has been with them for over 3 years. We've been pretty happy with our miles even though we average around 2500. But, for us that works. However, we've been hit like some other drivers with very low miles for over a month now, averaging about 1600 miles. But, today my husband called and I thought you would all find this interesting, I'm still scratching my head!

His first load out from home time (CA) was to Lubbuck, TX, 1100 miles. I was just praying he would get something decent after that. They had him call in for his load and they ended up giving him something very unusual. He was told to take his empty to Amarillo, TX and drop it. Then he is deadheading to Colorado Springs for another empty (600 miles), that is so strange! They told him the trailer had been at Ace Hardware for awhile and they needed to move it. Then he is going to pick up a load and take it to North Carolina (1582 miles), that will give us 3200 miles for the week. I sure hope this keeps up!

Anyway, he said they told him there were several other drivers doing the same thing. I've heard of deadheading for a load but not for an empty! Anyway, we don't care how we get them as long as we get some miles. I've been out with for over 3 years and have decided to stay home with my mom who is elderly and needs someone with her full time. It is a lot more expensive to have 2 people living on the road, and if I stay home maybe we can handle this slow freight a little better.

I hope everyone else starts seeing the miles too. And by the way, I also love ET's and Supersnacks posts. I especially enjoy yours Supersnack and am glad to see you will still be around!

WOW, I'm full of questions now.

Does EverTrucker even exist or is he a recruiter sitting at a desk?
Do other Crete drivers sit and get slow, short loads while the dispatchers save the good runs for evertrucker?
Is it true that Travis's parents keep dropping him off at the hospital? (Think Safe Haven Law)

 

no they dont save all the good loads.it is just slow right now. i have been with crete for almost 6 yrs and usally avg 3000 to 3400 miles aweek but not this yr do to the ecomny and that it is an election yr makes alot of difference.

 

Crete deadheaded me from Colorado Springs (I think it was) down to El Paso to pickup Copper going back east. It was a telephone call from a lady asking me if I had the hours to do the load. I jumped on the load, I told her thats a long deadhead, and she said that the shipper is paying for the empty miles, so Crete is probably making a profit also!!! After I got to the shipper in El Paso, I talked to other Crete drivers picking up and they were deadheaded there also from Denver, Colorado Springs and one from Cheyenne. So if you ever deadhead, Crete may be charging the shipper for the empty miles depending on how far away it is or how bad the shipper needs a truck. DRIVE SAFE

 

A year or so ago, my husband and I deadheaded from Laredo, TX to El Paso, but I've never heard of deadheading 600 miles to pick up an empty when you already have one?!?

 

I did ET. I like to put a face to the S/N but you never go into FL often. You are a good writer and one of the few to show his pay information. I know of few people who do this.

I'm currently in CDL school and applied with Crete about two weeks ago. I'm suppose to receive their decision next week. If it's a go, I'll have to make the decision of going with Millis, TMC or Crete. If I go with Crete, it's largely due to your posts ET. It's what made me consider them in the first place. I don't think it an overstatement to say that what I've learned from your posts lessens the learning curve if I were to join Crete. ET, I don't know if it's too late to offer Crete your name as a referral, but I'm willing to raise the question with them.

When i was doin the training thing we ended up in NB and had luch there. Mr. Aklie sat at our table and ate lunch an chatted with us..he is a very nice down to earth guy. And Thanks to brent we had luch for free

And yes ET your posts help me decide also. Or i'd be at melton rite now doin the flatbed thing.

Over all im happy with my choice, I have a few gripes about what your aloud to do to the truck, But its uderstandable why they dont want you to do it also...So here i am just puttin my time in for a 07 so i can get a apu to help keep the idel down and the quailcomm quiet...lol

I have applied, but have had no conversations with anyone at your home office. In addition, my school is not PTDI certified. If not happy in my first driving company, I will re-apply.
