Not much room at Lafayette. The park trails across the street are mostly flooded.

There’s 2 bars within walking distance of there, plus the tavern across the street.

Too much of a square to leave the fur baby alone while I do my George Thorogood thing.

Name your best bars while out on the road:

    I’ve got a few:

    The Checkered Flag- Walcott, IA
For some reason every time I’ve stopped here it was always 20 below zero. All truckers. Serious drinking and condoned sexual harassment of the servers takes place here.

    Ruttenbucks- Tridelphia, WV
Easily the best baby back ribs on the road & right next to a T/A to boot. Mostly truckers.

    Sanford’s- Cheyenne, WY
You’ve got to park at the Diamond Shamrock just off of I-80 (in line w/ I-180- only 3 spaces avail. but most don’t know about it so they’re usually open) and take a short Uber into downtown. Crazy large beer selection good food and wild times to be had. Mostly civilians but the kind that like to have fun.

I'm partial to Wisconsin bars. I94 exit 333 in Sturtevant you can park at the Petro and walk over to Route 20 Restraurant and bar.

In North Fon du lac you can walk downtown to Jenz from the BP truck stop on 41.

The restraurant at exit 45 in Menomonie serves beer but isn't a bar. Spotted Cow still tastes the same.

Wisconsin has good people, the TA at Janesville has a couple nearby, the Pilot at Beloit has several, the Loves at Oakdale has a great bar nearby. Oak Creek has that Pollack bar I love near it.
But Uber makes anything possible, I used to wait 30 to 40 minutes for a cab and Uber can be there in minutes and is way cheaper.
For like 4 bucks a man can be at Hooters from the Pilot in Augusta.

    dwells40 and Astoh Thank this.

I never understood why more drivers didn’t use Uber. Some cities aren’t accessible without it. I once had a Saturday AM delivery in Boise, ID that cancelled due to snow. It rescheduled for the next Monday. I Ubered into downtown Boise and had a fantastic weekend exploring and feasting. Would have been trapped looking at the inside of a truck for the weekend without it.

I tried for six months to get a load going to Montana. I was going to drop and then take a week of vacation. Turns out that (in 2016) there was only one load a week in the entire company that went there - a dog food load in Nebraska. In nearly ten years of driving I only had one load going through Montana: A Seattle to Pittsburgh run.
