I'm also looking at Crete, that's my third choice...I miss OTR....but, i just turned down my second.....Mclane foods whose got an awesome benefits package and did the pre-hire drug test.... instead, i'll be hauling sand, get pneumatic plus oil fields experience ....I sooo hope I made a good decision, I wouldn't mind meeting some 7-11 sexy cashiers....then again, i'd rather have a nice, rent free - APU equipped studio, all to myself......if the oil fields dont produce the promised $100,000...and McLane or Frito-lays dont hire me in the future...then am definiterly going with CRETE....

OTR Training
Hey guys and gals! Training has been going well. My trainer is great, which is usually everyone's main concern. He told me I was above average and shifted very well for a student. I owe my experience to my teacher and 8 weeks at college. After stopping in South Carolina the other night, we woke up and delivered our load in York, PA. We picked up another load in York that delivered to North Carolina. It was a heavy load that I got experience sliding the tandems. It was also good to get to feel how a full load handles. We made it to Virginia and spent the night. It started snowing that night and into the morning. I have gotten experience with snow, rain, and night driving. We woke up the next morning and delivered the load in NC. My trainer is from NC and had to stop by his house to renew his hazmat. I am in a hotel while he does this. We are basically taking a reset. It has been a nice break after those first couple of days trying to get settled in to the trucking routine. I have been a tourist and walking around the town checking things out. The process has been fun and exciting so far. I have no complaints or regrets. I think I am going to enjoy it! -

I called CRETE today and was sad to be told that they only normally take guys out of school f they completed a 200 hour school. I am a student at West Mich CDL that is only a 120 hour school. She said that if you have 4 month otr experience then thy would consider you. I guess I will have to sign up somewhere for the 31cpm mile shuffle with some big carrier for a while to get some miles under my belt. Still have my sights on CRETE. Asa Veteran I like they way they reach out to us.

I was saddened today to find out that Crete will not hire me out of Tucson Arizona. The recruiter said they are not hiring West of the Rockies at this time, because they can't get those drivers home easy enough with their current work load. Bummer. I can't say I'm very excited about any other companies at this point, but I still have lots of research to do.

I call the main office and spoke to a woman whose name I think was Jennifer. She said that they usually only take 200 hour schools from the approved list. I am attending West Michigan CDL school in Grandville Mi and it has a great reputation and seems like a good quality school. I am still going to pursue CRETE. She did also say that If I have 4 month of otr experience driving at least 5 state area that would be good too. I will try to find a direct link to a recruiter and see if it leads to a door to open. I really hate to have to sign on with one of the big bottom feeders to get my time in but am willing to pay my dues if I must.

OTR Training
Hey TruckersReport! I know it has been a while, but I am still alive. I have been hard at work training and learning. I have to take advantage of it while I can. I made it to the halfway point, so that is an accomplishment! I am 4 weeks in, and have 4 weeks to go. I will be heading home in a couple of days for my hometime. We had a load going by my house earlier in training, so I was fortunate to get to spend the night there. I got lucky! My trainer and I typically like to get an early start on the day, so we can finish early in the day. It makes everything easier. We usually have a mix of live loads and drop/hook. We have had some long days but for the most part everything has ran smoothly. Being in the truck with the trainer is an experience in many different ways! I know there is plenty of things for me to forget to tell you all. If you have any specific questions, then please feel free to ask! Goodluck to you all!Kutina Thanks this. -
GA_Rookie,
Thanks for these posts. I'm heading to Lincoln today to begin orientation tomorrow. Then with a trainer for 3 weeks. Since most of my experience in the past year has been tankers in the ND oil fields they figure I need some otr help which I gladly accept. I'll start my own thread on here from Lincoln so others can compare the process between yours and my experience. Hang in there! -
Kutina Thanks this.
