Yeah there is Tea who is the manager and then Tony who is the asst manager. I haven't met Tea yet my interview was with Tony. He is a pretty cool dude. Jeff will be your boss till your done with training. Which office girl is doing your paperwork and stuff?

 

Joyce processed me. She was really nice and handled her job well even though she was BTTW (means very busy) all of the time.

 

Yeah she is cool. Brandy handled mine. All the girls up there are busy as hell and handle their job VERY well. I have a lot of respect for them and the job they do.

 

Well day 3 is done. Meeting my trainer tomorrow. His truck is due for tires so looks like I will have another night in my own bed then off we go....I hope. They are actually putting me in a Schaffer truck for training. Talked to the guy. he seems very nice and agreeable. he had 3 rules; 1) clean up after yourself..yo mamma don't work here 2) listen to him....he's instructing me not scolding me and 3) (the most important for me too) you WILL take showers!

 

So how was the driving test?

 

not bad. first time to drive a 10 speed (only 9's in the past) so seventh was where fifth used to be....I didn't get that memo haha

coupled up to a trailer, did pre-trip, drove about 12 miles down the freeway then into a truck stop. backed into stall then went back to the yard. it is just to see if you can handle the truck well and could take instructions. I avoided a gator in my lane and the observer was impressed that I saw it in time. The four wheeler in front of me just narrowly missed it. I checked mirrors and used turn indicator so it was all good. Switched lanes a couple of times as a courtesy for motorists along the shoulder. Had a cop follow me but he went on and left us alone. The observer could not have been nicer either. He gave me a few pointers for real world driving that differs from school driving. More of some common sense stuff to help me along.

 

You will have another driving test at the "real" orientation in Lincoln. That is the one thy really counts but if after 8 weeks of training you can't pass it you have no business in a 18 wheeler lol. You will do fine and from what I hear the trainers at Crete actually shower and train. Not stink and sleep in the bunk while you drive. Mine is awesome.

 

confirmed our driving arrangement today. I drive while he sits in jumpseat instructing me. I like that! He seems very cool and generous with the space and the considerations of my comfort. he called just now and we leave Dallas(Wilmer) tomorrow at 10:00 heading to Mass. for Monday delivery. 1800 miles in three days....very doable

 

Good luck stungjoe! I think most trainers at Crete are good. The few I know are. You will get to do an evaluation of your trainer when you are through. Have fun, the 8 weeks will go fairly quickly as you learn.

 

yep he's very good. the t/s we're at is packed but he got us a nice spot. He's sharing the shower credits so that is nice...haha. I am afraid the 8 weeks will be over too soon and I will still have questions but he said to call him anytime. He is not pushy or excitable. We get along great
