CRETE Questions

You have to apply to the individual company (I'm not positive about Hunt,
even though an independant company comprised of owner operators,
they might be wrapped within Crete as a flatbed division, the Crete recruiter can tell you).
Crete and Shaffer have fully independent payscales, payroll, clients, and dispatch centers. They DO share maintenance facilities, terminals, fuel networks, and company benefits. Obviously, they are dedicated to two different types of freight (Crete = dry van Shaffer = refrigerated )

 

Thanks for the info. I figured out where I wanted to work and what I wanted to work...western regional is what i selected through Crete. I applied, even though I don't have my CDL yet. Im hoping at least get the application through. I said I was attending trucking school...although I'm not yet...hopefully I can call and explain next week so they can keep my stuff on file. Looking for companies that work out here in the west.

 

lol, dont sign up on a board, just to ask a question in two or more places at the same time. Why don't you go to their website and actually search? If you go there, and click on an area you live / want to work, they will list what is available.

 

I have been to their web sight, and I have searched several different forums. I posted in more than one spot because i didn't know the best place to ask my question. I wanted the input from a few of their drivers not just the bs the company is putting out.

 

Well asking the same question a few times on various forums is only going to lead you to one same answer...unless you are persistant enough to find some sort of line of crap that you want to hear.

also...the website tells you exactly what they are looking for; something a recruiter can also tell you. A driver might not know about florida if they don't work in that area. Plus from what it sounds like...getting loads out of Florida is a pain in the bass.

Finally, I don't know about you...but if I didn't trust the company enough to tell me the truth from a recruiter or a website telling where they are hiring and what they are looking for...and called it all BS...then I probably shouldn't be looking at said company.

 

Hi All. I will be starting CDL school shortly and and should be done with 6 weeks training sometime around July 18. I live in Brodheadsville Pa . I see Crete has a terminal in Macungie Pa ( not too far from my house). Whats the possibility for a newbe to get a job with this company?? Maybe a Dedicated Route where I might get home at least twice a month. The big ? here is will they hire someone with no experance???

 

I've seen several posts, here and elsewhere asking if Crete has a driving school. I just received a packet yesterday from the recruiting director that outlines their options.

They will hire student drivers graduates from a select number of PTDI schools. One of these schools is Southeast Community College in Lincoln Nebraska.

"Crete Carrier Corporation in cooperation with Southeast Community College offers Professional Truck Driver Training. SCC is a high-quality college."

Tuition is $1028 for out of state applicants and is due in full on your first day. It looks like they are on a college quarter system so classes do not start every week. For Nebraska residents, the price drops by $200. There are some minor additional costs ... $25 graduation fee...but nothing out of line. The actual class schedule is Monday thru Friday...roughly six hours a day and either a morning or afternoon schedule which might allow potential students to work part time somewhere else.

200 hours of class room / lab time and 100 hours of behind the wheel time.

During the time you are enrolled, you are not an employee of CRETE. Once you graduate, you then can become an employee of Crete and during your 8 week training with CRETE you will begin to receive pay.

CRETE notes that first year drivers average $33 - $41,000 (.34 cents a mile) They note that they do not aggressively recruit students and like to hire experienced drivers. They are very selective on the students they hire.

The Training Process Timeline Page indicates that a potential student driver applies with CRETE and once initially accepted for potential employment, CRETE facilitates your enrollment at SCC Once you graduate, you come back to CRETE and do another drug test and physical so they can confirm you are still good to go.

The Course Description for SCC looks straightforward. They are very strict about attendance. There are no excused absences..even your first one drops your final score for the class by two points.

There is no student housing at SCC. CRETE's brochure on the program lists some alternative housing solutions....private inexpensive short term rental apartments and houses.

CRETE will provide you with the list of other authorized schools they consider student drivers from. You can call their recruitment office and they will provide the one closest to your residence. I live in Denver, and SCC in Lincoln Nebraska is the one for me.

 

Thankyou for your reply. I will be going to Northhamton Community College for my training. I lost my factory job thanks to out sourcing to Mexico. So the government is picking up the tab of 3800.00 for me. Northhamton is a PTDI

Does Crete run NYC or no?

 

Occasionally they run loads into NYC or the Island. If you are sent out there you will be paid an extra $100 for congestion pay. I've been with the company for two years and have never been into NYC or onto the Island. I have had loads offered to me going that way, but was offered alternative destinations to choose from, which I did.
