I am confused because so many websites (forums) say you do, and others say you don't so I can't call it. People say they don't even check unless your staying for a while, if your in and out, I think they just scan and let you in with out integrations especially for your working,

Going into Canada with a record is not hard depending on what you were busted for and how long ago it was. misdemeanors around 8-10 years old will not be a problem. Less then that you may be denied entry depending on the type of crime. Felony This is where you are going to have trouble. Just google Canada Customes and you will find the info and forms you will need to to cross. I have been going in and out of Canada from 1998 to current and I have a Class B misdemeanor ( theft less then 200. ) from 1992 when I was 18 yrs old and I never had any trouble going to Canada and did not hide my past when asked at the border. Be honest with them and they will work with you.

I think it depends on what you did wrong, and how long ago it was. I have a record and run back and forth. I never lie at the border and the let me go.

Well I got into a fight after leaving a club in NY and we both got arrested we got hit with simple assault charges and fines but didn't spend a day in jail. I am not sure if that is considered a felony.

I am no New York cop, but from what you have it sounds like a misdemeanor. It may or may not show on your record.

I've never been convicted of anything, but was arrested once...I had an "eventful" time as a teenager.

The first time I went to Canada they asked at the border if I had ever been to jail...I told them no because the charge was expunged due to lack of evidence (I was innocent)...then they took me inside and asked me again...this time I explained it to them in detail...jail, yes...convicted, no.

They knew the answer before they asked the question...

They let me pass...that was going IN to Canada.

The next trip up they asked if I owned any guns...remembering where lying got me last time I told the truth this time and said "yes", they asked how many...I said "Hell, I don't know...a lot of them" (that is an honest answer...I have quite a few, and do not know the exact count)...it was a mess.

Lying got me in trouble (even thought it wasn't really lying, it was supposed to have been deleted from record...but I guess Interpol is different), telling the truth got me in trouble....eventually I said the heck with Canada, they can do without if they depend on me to haul freight up there.

Yea Canada sounds like a mess no pun intended. So did it come up on the computer that you was arrested? Did they actually tell you it came up? Why wouldn't they just tell you, look buddy you have a record on file we can or can't let you in why do they play chasing the tail? That is retarded.

That happened to me also, it was back in 86. I did spend the long weekend in jail and ended up in front of a Judge who gave me a fine. I personally don't know one man who didn't get into a bar fight at one time or another.

When I get to the border and they ask have I ever been convicted of a crime, I just tell them yes, it was a bar fight. Then they send me on my way.

I can't understand why something so simple stays on your record. But when I look there it is.
