Criminal check to canada

i usually wait the hour--then call broker to check and make sure load has cleared--sometimes if not--you may be turned back--they have always let me go to brokers tho--but i have heard of other drivers getting turned around to go clear paperwork

sometimes you may get some whacked out questions--depends on the officer--canadian officers a bit more laid back--us officers --never smile and very gruff
some places are good to cross others a pain in the butt---just dont pop your brakes at the booth or if you go into building for xray--just shut it off in gear---that will make you a friend right there
all officers are just doing their job and like everybody else--they have good days and bad days--but for the most part they are all pretty good in their own way
no i take that back--there is some real butt holes on both sides

 

They asked if I had any with me and I said no...THEN they asked if I had any any home...

I don't want any part of trucking in Canada...I did it for a while, my whole first year thats all I did...NC to Canada or Ottawa, IL to Canada (hauling glass)...I'm not missing a thing, and I make just as much $$$ staying here in the US.

I'll turn in my keys before I return to Canada in a truck...its that simple.

 

So your saying if you had a misdeamnor charge expunged from your record, they will still have the charge on their records?

 

That's what I would like to know. I recently got a copy of my criminal record from the Dept. of Criminal Investigation and there is nothing on it. I have several misdemeanors from almost 30 years ago, public intox & disturbing the peace, and one juvenile conviction that was a deferred sentence. They aren't in the states records, but they are in the FBI's? I guess when I apply for a trucking job I will list those arrests, even though they don't seem to be on record.

 

I answered this once but it seems it got deleted or something...the answer is YES, Canada Border Patrol can see your ENTIRE criminal history. If you were charged with a crime...they can see it no matter if you were convicted or not...I had to explain that I was never convicted, in detail...

Ok, I see some goofy and unreliable info on here. I have a 20 yr old felony conviction, I have been to Canada three times in a passenger car and they have never asked me about my background and have not run a background check.

However, as a trucker, you will be asked to show I.D. at the Border and they will check your background. As someone mentioned, a DUI can be a pain in the butt to get in. A felony is even worse, you need to contact the Canadian Consulate for all the info, and not ask on here. There is one in Minneapolis, Chicago, D.C., San Francisco, and I think NYC.

The last time I looked into it, as a felon, you have to apply initially for a temporary permit to enter, it is typically issued for 2 yrs. If you are clean while in Canada (no tickets, etc.) then you can apply for a Ministers Permit, this is good for 5 to 7 yrs. When applying, you have to work for a company that requires you to travel to Canada and is already permitted to travel in Canada. They seriously frown on the temporary permit process if your not working for a company.

Yes, and coming back into the US can be a real pain in the arse, even if your in a passenger vehicle.
