Why would you want to give up a good paying job, where you get home every night? New truckers make about $7 per hour or less (if you include all the time spent waiting at docks, waiting for load assignments, stuck in traffic, breakdowns etc). Plus they live in a metal box and only go home a few days per month.
---I know a few RNs they make $70g plus working weekends only,3 12 hour shifts. As a new trucker you will be working 11 hours every day, maybe weekends too and not making anywhere near the kind of money a RN makes.Think about it,at 21-29 cents a mile how many miles do you have to drive before you make the kind of money you make now as a nurse, remember you only get paid if the truck is moving.

    Why?
    1) NO Nursing jobs where I live here in Ohio! I would have never believed it if someone had told me I could not find work as a nurse , and I have an excellent work history, references..blah..blah..blah!
    2) You think truckers are stressed. Well, nursing ain't a piece of cake either!
    3) Number #1 reason? Can you spell severe C..a..r..e..e..r.. B..u..r..n..o..u..t...?:biggrin_25521:
    4) I want to give driving a chance.

I like to drive......yeah, but 500 miles everyday? We will see.lol
I like working alone as I am a loner by nature.
Even though I would work within company perameters, I like the fact that I get to makes some decisions on how I am going to do things
I want to see the country (or at least the docks, truckstops, etc. in each state..haha) I laugh to myself when a recruiter tells me "oh, you will get to see all the sights, national parks, blah..blah..blah..) "Uh, yeah right lady." They are always women too. Snake oil salesmen have NOTHING over company recruiters
I want to meet lot lizards

Hey just kidding on that last part.

I may find out and decide that OTR is not my bag, but I would at least like to give both the job and myself a chance to see if it is.

Even if it does "sour" that school or job it's better to risk one job than a whole career. You've got the right idea but just make sure you know what the question is asking on the job application. Points on your license has nothing to do with what they are asking on the job application. They want to know if you were found guilty or not. If you paid the fine then you are guilty. If it was thrown out or dismissed then you're not guilty. They also want to know what tickets would reflect bad on you for driving professionally. Like speeding 15mph over the limit.

You're going to see questions like, Has your license ever been suspended?, Have you ever been convicted of a DUI?, Have you ever been convicted of a misdemenor?, Have you ever been convicted of a felony? so on and so on. Sometimes they will not be very specific just to see if you come clean. Like the question have you ever been convicted of a DUI. I'm sure there's some that will say no because they were convicted of a OUI, OWI, or DWI, or something that doesn't match the DUI and the company will not see any difference. You just don't want to come across as trying to cover anything up. If you're not sure ask them. Like I said it's better to burn one chance than all your chances.

This is how it worked for me...

Filled out several apps. Ommitted a license suspension (that I knew I had but had nothing to do with driving) because the app always inquires as to whether or not your driving privlage ever been revoked or suspended. The way the computer system works on most of the carriers nowadays is... anything input into the app that is an automatic disqualification, the computer makes the decision, not the recruiter. So I ommitted my suspension, and was asked by the recruiter about my suspension, and I spilled the beans about missing a child support payment a few years ago. He said that child support suspensions dont have a bearing on whether or not I could get hired because it isnt due to a driving infraction, but, if i would have listed it on the online app, he would not have ever seen my app. due to being automaticly disqualified. I assume this doesnt work this way at every company, just the 4 or 5 i got pre hires from.

Dont lie, when given a chance by the recruiter, to give up ommitted info. Often the application isnt "complete" until 3 or 4 more phone interviews have been had, and then it is forwarded to saftey and HR.
