I have t-mobile. $80 gets me unlimited USA calling with unlimited data, I get 5GB at 3g speed(good enough to stream movies). Once 5gb is used I get data at 2g. Within that $80 I have a $10 add on that gives me international calling/texting. This is a monthly, pay as you go,no contract phone. After 3 months t-mobile will give you a code to "unlock" the phone so you can use it with other carriers if you choose not to stay with t-mobile.
Once you cross into Canada on this plan the phone will not work without a wi-fi signal which means there will be no surprise bills.
I went into Walmart, bought a phone (Android) then activated it over the same phone through t-mobile while using my Canadian address.
The phone can be used in Canada through "wi-fi" calling at no extra charge. As long as you have a wi-fi signal you can use your phone in Canada without incurring charges. Without a wifi signal in Canada the phone will not be able to call out/in.

So unless you're in a Starbucks or McDonalds the phone is useless....why bother at all?
-
this is 2012,you know that right
-
This phone works from my wi-fi home service.
It is the only contact number my company has which is very convenient. -
i'm not looking for a new primary phone. I just locked in another 3 years with Bell. Just looking to see if anyone added anything to their canadian plans to use while across the border.
-
You can add North American coverage to you Bell plan BUT getting a Verizon phone is half of what Bell will cost you!
-
Bell sucks. As soon as my plan is done I'm going to koodo. Way cheaper. I stay off the phone as much as possible in the US but I did buy a $20 Tracphone and the 1yr card plus it comes with double minutes so $79 buys me 450 mins, doubles to 900 mins and that lasts me a couple months no sweat. I use my laptop and skype if I'm somewhere there's internet connection. And just to clarify..... BELL SUCKS....
-
Priced out bell, right around the same price as my Roger's phone. About 300/month I don't have texting that's about a 50/month touch. 850 minutes talk time, flex rate data (limit gets upped when i go over) so yes bell has it. Ask for north American business plans
-
Good info thanks. but no way in hell im paying 300 a month for a cell phone
-
Get a Verizon phone....best coverage in North America @ the best price.
