I agree, I was talking about school, not in a lot full of trucks, people spotters, etc... always signal your intention.

I know the purpose of school is to pass the test an get you some seat time......but I think schools should take some time to teach backing manuevers like you will encounter in these small truck stops (Pilot in Birmingham,AL accross from the state department of safety comes to mind) where you only have 55-58 feet or less between the rows. Its hard for trainers to find the time to practice these manuevers with students, much less the safety of practicing in a busy tight truck stop.

I was aiming at the OP more than you. I just hate seeing the OP quoted 10 times over in a thread so I try not to lol. It just seems like a bad order to teach it to me.

Yeah it sucks. There are a lot you run into out there that no one ever taught you. I ran into a curved forward parking the other day at a McDonald's. The first thing I thought was, "They don't teach you this one at truck school." It really wasn't hard, just not a way I ever expected to park.

Incorrect - DMV in Va (as of 2010 anyway) did not require parallel parking or alley docking of any kind. As of 2010, DMV in VA only required 2 backing manuvers...straight line backing and a right side curved backing, following a line looking like this -- ( During both manuvers the tires of the trailer must stay within 1 foot of the line during the entire manuver.

Honest to God...that is all that was required by the state of VA as of 2010...my mother has worked at DMV for over 20 years, her friend was the one that tested my class. I thought it was rediculous that those where the only manuvers we had to master as the real world would surely throw a wide range of backing manuvers at us. So, during our down time at school, those of us that were serious about driving, would set up the course to practice multipule backing techniques. The instructor, also a friend of the family for many years, was pretty cool in letting us do that and would often correct our self designed course as needed. And thank God he did! Like I said, VA may have changed that by now but I'm not sure. It was rumored that 2011 would bring up to 9 different backing manuvers instead of the meager 2 we had to learn...

I couldn't quote your photo, but I've seen a few like that. Must have been designed by a former peelot designer. The one they fired!:biggrin_2559:
Looked like someone had no concept of offtracking.

You're probably right. Sometimes I have to ask myself how they built a truckstop without giving thought to the fact trucks would be in it?
