Just my 2 cents, but not all directors are taking money to place students. Actually, its just the opposite. All private schools should have a relationship with companies that they place their students with. This does not mean that they are getting a kick back. The trucking companies have to approve the school they are hiring students from. As long as the program meets or exceeds their requirements, and the student meets the companies requirements, then most of them will take as many students as they can get. Their does not have to be unethical practices involved as some suggest. The benefit to the director is to get his students trained and to have the ability to get his students a job when they graduate.

If you want to work for CRST and you are not being trained by them, there is no contract needed. They do not require a contract to get a job there straight out of a private school. Only if you are trained by them do they require a contract. Don't worry, Sage I am sure is a good school and you should not have any problems getting a job with CRST if thats what you want. Good luck with your training.

    Beefht Thanks this.

You asked if anyone knew of any other profession where the employer charges you to work there. I was simply answering your question.

Stay AWAY from CRST, They will run you but you wont be able to afford to eat. .22 per mile split so you would be making .11 per mile for every mile ran. Not enough to live on the road for sure. The contract is 8 months if they pay for the school. I wouldnt suggest it because thats the exact way i made my start. I wouldnt suggest it to my worst enemy as a matter of fact. Well if you have any other questions Ive been where your at right now before and im sure I can answer them. Take Care and have a nice one.

Wow, .11 per mile. if you were able to cover 600 miles a day (doubtful you could average that with them) you will make a whopping $66 per day. If we break that down into 11 hours of driving time your average pay for just the driving would be $6 an hour.

Taco Bell is hiring in this area starting at $6.50 an hour (plus they pay time and a half overtime). Also you don't have to a special license and pay $3000+ to a school first, and you don't have to be responsible for a $80,000 truck and trailer or $100,000 of dollars in cargo, tickets, scales, etc...

Makes you wonder why anyone would even think about becoming a truck driver.

Actually they are team drivers and the mileage goes to the truck. So if the.truck went 600 miles today and you drove that 600 miles you would be paid $0.22 for 300 miles and your lazy team mate will too.. let me drive solo..

My son just left a team mate that wouldn't drive at night. My son put the mileage on the truck while he team mate got to back into a dock and sit while being loaded or unloaded.. son fixed that issue buy making sure he used all of his 14 hrs and then left that idiot at a terminal. His excuse for not driving at night.. the headlight glare bothered him..

I hear ya... I wouldnt recommend teaming or CRST for anyone! And .22 per mile for 300 miles is the same as .11 per mile for 600... just another way of marketing their CRAPPY SCHEME. I understand the dilemma it would cause in a mans right mind about being a truck driver or not but for some of us out here it is " In our Blood " and we arent going out without a fight! I am one of those guys that loves what I do regardless of the bs we have to put up with from day to day. Its hard some days and some days its the best thing that could ever be. But anyways.... Keep the rubber side down and the shiney side up.

You missed the point. You drove the truck for 600 miles while your team mate slept or what ever. You should have got $0.22 for 600 miles cause you drove it all.. Instead your team mate got half of that and didn't drive one mile.

Contrary to popular belief it doesn't always work itself out. As in my son's example. He drove all night only to have his team mate back it into the dock and for that he got half the pay.

Husband/wife teams work well because that little issue isn't an issue. All the money goes to the husband/wife, but two stranger... NOPE!!!!
