My average per mile to the truck in last four weeks is $2.01. The $2200 is net to the bank after all expenses, of course I set 25% of that aside for taxes which this week is $550. So $1650 for the week after taxes. My last four week average is $2125.27..I have been home 3 weekend during this period and even took 3.5 days off for a mini-vacation to the smokey mountains during this 4 week period.
These are my numbers for this week just completed.
Muscle shoals, Al. / Garden City, Ga. $1.91 to the truck $995.80 gross to the truck after all expenses I cleared $458 on this trip.
Savannah, Ga / Hebron, Oh. $1.68 to the truck $1100 gross to the truck. Net $460 on this trip after all expenses.
Cleveland, Oh. / Marshalltown, Ia. $2.00 to the truck $1258.60 gross to the truck. Net $587 after all expenses.
Davenport, Ia / Decatur, Al. $1.96 to the truck. $1209 gross to the truck. Net $625 after all expenses.
Carrolton, Ga. / Richmond, Va/ Maryland/ Pennsylvania/ New Jersey (four stopper) $2.54 to the truck $2290.95 gross to the truck. Net $1401.95 after all expenses.
Average $2.018 cpm (loaded miles only) to the truck.
Average net per trip for the week $884.19

The best way for comparison to quote money is gross line haul not including fuel surcharge because fuel surcharge is variable. You can quote FSC separately.
Also expenses vary from one business to the next. What do you include in the above quote? Registration? Maintenance? IRS payments?
"$995.80 gross to the truck after all expenses" What does that mean?
All I wanna know is Gross Line Haul and Fuel Surcharge. It's that simple.
I'm not picking on you runningman, so many guys quote money all different ways and it's basically futile to compare.
I know a lot of our Agent whip out the calculator and start with the "to the truck" quotes and I'm like "hold it, hold it, I just need to know gross LH and FSC".
If it's under $2/mi GLH and .60/mi FSC I have to really think hard about putting it on my trailer. -
YOU are one to make things happen. Not the company. If you need the company to make things easy for you, you shouldn't be masquerading as a self-employed trucker.
To be fair there is a shortage of good trailers. They rent what they can from outside companies for the prospects without their own.
Honestly I don't understand why anyone would rent/lease any truck from any carrier period. Especially used fleet trucks from a company who basically trains rookies.
Generally the new recruits who approach this venture from a company driver POV will cry, complain and blame others for their failure. The ones who realize they are the only ones incharge of their destiny are successful. -
They are getting new Utility trailers for the rentals. Seen one a few weeks ago.
Petro-T/A cost plus discount is the same as what Landstar gets. I compared Mercer's discount and we get .08/gal better discount! Nice. -
CRST has great discount on Michelins too. I snagged some 275/80R22.5 XZE2 for the trailer last month and they were $398 each; carry home, I mount them myself. Best spread axle tire I ever tried.

If I were to buy a truck, I think I'd at least start off with CRST Malone. I'd definitely get my own trailer, though, or set up to where I pull Olander's trailers.

That truely is an incredible week! Roughly 3700 miles with a gross of $6800!!! AWESOME!
If this aint too personal for you, could you tell me what deductions you take from this $6800 gross? Like the other fella said, every biz runs differently, so I'm trying to guage what my figures might look like. -
My weekly fixed deductions range from $650 to $725 depending on the week, (some deductions come out only twice a month) Trailer rental $185/ truck payment $183.75/ license&permits $42/ securement equiptment
$45/ insurance $30/ 2290 escrow $ 10.58/ occupational insurance $45/ maintance .12cpm all miles (averages $90 per trip)/ performance bond $50. As of right now my cost per mile to run this truck is $1.02 per mile.
My truck averages 6.2 mpg. I only run 63mph and my idle percentage is 7%. On this trip to NJ I had a light load and I have been able to average 7.37 mpg.
Some naysayers on here like to pick apart the .12cpm maint. deduction that Malone deducts, but for the first two years of the lease you have a bumper to bumper warranty. If ANYTHING goes wrong with this truck its covered. It doesn't matter if you have only put $100 into your account and you blow a motor its covered. For the first two years you will not go in the hole in your maint. account. (this is where in other LP programs guys get so far in the hole and can't ever dig there way out) . I have set aside $2000 in a "rainy day" fund, so that when my truck does eventaually have to go into the shop for an exteneded period of time, I can just send them a check for my weekly fixed costs and not go into the hole.
Like I have stated before... this not a perfect lease, but I am thus far very happy with the money I am making, my hometime, my truck, and the Malone system.Travelinman Thanks this. -
In orientation this week after quitting Mercer Trans. Have a buddy here for 4 months and he is doing better then what I was making at Mercer... What I like about CRST is that you can use load boards,unlike Mercer. Many options here for you to be profitable.
If you don't have a clue on how to find loads or how to operate YOUR business you will fail.
If you use a load board CRST separates the fuel surcharge from line haul.
If you get a $3900 load that is 1702 miles, CRST takes the current fuel surcharge of .64 times the mileage which equals $1089.28... Take that from the $3900 which equals $ 2810.72.....multiply this by 25% which is $702.68 ( this is what CRST makes 25% )....Then subtract the $702.68 from $2810.72 which is $ 2108.04.. Then add back your fuel surcharge of $1089.28 which makes the truck earn $ 3197.32 which equals $1.87 a mile
It is a pretty good deal.... Rates are in some areas the same as Mercer, some more and some less. The big difference is that you have many ways of obtaining freight without having to sit and wait for a load to get down to you...
Hopefully CRST will not cheat me like Mercer did....The only good thing at Mercer was my coordinator. Upper management has no integrity !!!!!!
