Ok. CRST is not all o/o. Mostly all of their trucks are leases. Mostly all their trailers are rentals. Mostly all their freight are from agents who have THEIR own trucks. CRST will keep lease trucks making SOME money. Of course they want their truck and trailer payments. If you make more so be it.
A buddy of mine was making awesome money while he LEASED a crappy red freightliner that stayed in the shop. The maintenance account is a rip off. It's more like a insurance policey . You don't get any of the money you paid in. Once my buddy Steve bought his OWN truck he had to start using load boards to keep running.
If you make friends with certain agents you can be profitable.
I was doing good until freight slowed down and rates dropped. The CRST load board DOES NOT have much freight on it ...
Harold is blowing smoke. Lol I've been a o/insincere 1997. Not a lease operator . And this was the first company that about bankrupt me ..... I'll gladly compare this years earnings to Harold any day of the week. -
To Clarify... Crst Malone has 2 seperate load boards just like landstar does.. 1 load board is the freight offered to the company O/O and the other is cheapper freight that goes online to everyone.. just like landstar... its very cheap freight..
Thank You...free2frog Thanks this. -

i had a company truck that also leaked from the sleeper windows.
But it would only do it every once and a while when it rained hard. I had a pro-star, with the windows you can prop open from the bottom a few inches.
It started getting on my nerves, but i never even got around to telling maintence about it. Maybe because I went 3 months without getting near a terminal. -

I have never done a lease with any carrier, but have checked out most of them over the years. I cannot see me ever doing one of them, but many do. Whether you lease a truck or buy outright, you need to understand that you are in business for yourself. I can't help but wonder if that is where the trouble starts with most of those who do lease purchase. They still want to operate like a company driver. When you are in business for yourself, you need to be very proactive. I believe that another reason so many fail at these leases is due to their lack of experience, both driving and business. There are so many who have little driving experience, yet are willing to sign their name to a lease without first understanding how the numbers will work and how they can make money. I did look at CRST Malone's lease purchase program many years ago. It did seem more fair than many others that I checked. I didn't do their lease. I already owned a truck and trailer.
Having previously leased to CRST Malone, I do have first hand knowledge about how they operate. It sounds like some things have changed since I was there, such as the loadboard. But, I can honestly say that were I looking to lease to another carrier, I would give them serious consideration. I was successful with them. Some were not. That can be said with any carrier. They do need to work on their safety record. But, according to those who are still with them that I am acquainted, you should still be able to make money with them. I made decent money will with them. I stayed away from loads that were unprofitable. I never hauled a load for fuel money to position me to a better freight area. Like all carriers, they have cheap and good paying loads. I don't think you can blame any carrier with whom you lease for the end results if you fail. You should accept some or all of the responsibility yourself.
