Do you lease a truck and trailer from CRST Malone? I always did well with them when I leased to them, but I owned my equipment.

Wow, I'm reading a whole lot of "I don't know how to load my own truck and it's CRST's fault" here... I love it here. I love being able to find my own freight and basically point my truck where I want to point it. I've had some low paying weeks (never under 500.00 after expenses and fuel), but only because I have chosen to spend a little more time with the family.

I'm leasing my truck from Malone and glad I made the choice. Those guys on here crying about Malone just couldn't handle doing everything for themselves and deserve to be back in a company truck, letting someone else run their career for them.

The biggest problem I have is that I live out side of their "power lanes". Theres no doubt if I moved to IL, SC, AL or an eastren/ midwest state I could make money with malone. However that being said sometimes it does feel a little biased toward L/P guys. My buddys running a L/P truck and consistently has way better freight than i do off of Malones load board. If you want to run western 11 forget it with CRSTs load board. Its not a bad company, yeah the CSA score sucks but that all comes down to the L/P, O/O guys. I think if you want to lease on with them make sure you know where the good freight is and decide how important seeing your family is, I run out 2 weeks and come home for 2 days, but that may have to change so i can get into the money lanes. Also the 25% cut is a little steep considering that they really only cover IFTA. You just have to make descions based on where the freight is moving and how you want to run. Make sure you talk to your fleet manager so you dont run out of fuel. And dont commit to a load and then refuse it. There is ALOT of brokers who refuse CRST trucks just because of this issue. Good luck.

25% may sound like a large cut, and it is, but you are getting more than just someone to calculate your IFTA. Carriers who lease on owner operators also pay the cargo and liability insurance for each one that leases to them. They also search out and find loads to keep you running. The carrier makes sure drivers are compliant. Carriers also act as your bank. They often pay owner operators before they are paid by the shipper or broker.

Lord all mighty, is there anyone that has stayed with Malone for more than 18mo's, as a lease purchase driver? Renting ing their trailer and all. Maybe there are, surely there are, but they just don't come on here. The drivers who start out usually seem really happy, in the beginning. Just doesn't seem like they (Malone) would stay in business too long, if L/O completion rate =0

They have a lot of older true owner operators that don't have or can't run a computer. I Have a friend that has been with them since1996 when Malone took over George transfer. There were about 12 or so guys in the hancock md area leased on with malone until the mill in Baltimore closed. Those guys all ran Baltimore to pittsburg and back(home everyday)They are all gone now, some retired some sold their trucks and trailers and some got real jobs. My opionion is if someone (CRST) is gonna do you a favor it is gonna cost you.But what do I know as I have only been doing this for about 38 years or so.Buy what you can afford on your own work steady and you can do ok.Not gonna get rich but do ok.I would not be afraid to rent a trailer from Malone if I had no truck payment or a small payment like 500 a month or so.In todays world it seems as all the truck drivers want to do is whiney box around and blame whatever happens on somebody else.I have been running a $9500.00 cabover for 12 years now and made a ton of money with it and I do not work steady like I should.

Glad I read this. I've been talking with some guy named Brian that's telling me he don't have one driver that makes under $1000 a week take home. I figured it was a load of crap.
