32. Thank you for your comments on this thread. I'm doing the class A/B local thing for the past 5 months, and know that there is certainly more to offer my family then my current position provides. I have a year OTR in with MCT out of Sioux Falls, and averaged 12,600 per month. Thinking of CRST, but to what degree I'm not sure. If I get out there and have more of an ownership role in my capacities, I would think that it would be one step closer to being an independent O/O under my own authority someday. Also I thought I saw somewhere that once you have your own truck and trailer that you can run under some companies authority and only payout 10-15% for running under them vs. 25%. (sorry for not knowing off hand the names of some of these.) Seems to be yet one more step along the path to making the most $ for ones own personal efforts in networking and dedication. - Geno.

Thanks 32swife for all the info. Talked to them and I either start Monday or next Monday, depending on what type of notice I want to give my current company. Your husband's truck is not gold? How did he get to lease a different truck? Anyway I went over all the details, calculated my estimated expenses over and over. Don't see how I couldn't be successful in the program, so I'm comin aboard. Hopefully everything works out fine for me.

I am now qualified with CRST Malone, and really considering leasing on with them, and would greatly appreciate anyone who would be willing to share some real facts,and/or experiences pulling for them in recent times. I have read many entries...many good, and many bad,yet would like some sound input. Thanks to any who can be of assistance !

It's good to read 32s Wife's posts. I was just as exhuberant, this time last year and the OP said I was full of crap. Last year was tough. We met many guys who didn't keep their trucks. We signed on with CRST-Malone to keep our truck. My husband was hauling cattle with his own authority and things looked shady. After the first three weeks, I called Eric Thrasher and chewed his ###, then we got busy.
We owned our truck and rented a trailer. We had a sorry dispatcher and we signed on with the OOIDA loadboard. Our first load off that board paid much more than a CRST-Malone load. We were in discussions with Landstar and my husband wanted to go on his own, again. I found loads for us, called the dispatcher and things went well. Came a time the agent said we we "gallivanting" across the country too much and they wanted the trailer. We had asked repeatedly if we needed to come home, for a load. I can't tell you how angry my husband was over that phone call. I was livid. We were about to be kicked off a board for working too much, with a trailer we paid the agent to use!!!
We bought our own trailer.
There's a heirarchy system in this company 32wife doesn't understand, just yet. She's very good with people, so she may get lucky. I'm also very good with people on the phone, so we have jumped the line, regularly.
Even better, we know how old school works. We would have made $150k this year(might still), but we took time off for Disneyland, Disneyworld, holidays and my kid is graduating nursing school.
Disneyworld was a load to the Ariel exhibit, we slept under the castle, parked the truck at the old airport, bought tix and spent a few days in the Magic Kingdom.
Last I looked, we are at 132,000+ for the year. -
Malone used to restrict L/P to the Midwest, for their own good (mostly to make sure they made payments). Loads are plentiful, short and you can make money, if you run your butt off. You don't need advances on 300 mile loads and you can make a geographical square.
There are different drivers for Malone, with different experiences. We own our truck, are assigned to an agent, haul over-sized loads and hang out with the old farts.
Your experience would be very different, I'm sure. -
Thanks for the info ! I do have my own truck, and would lease a trailer, yet there still seems to be too many open issues with Malone. I have actually both emailed, and verbally asked very specific, and in depth questions via a recruiter, and FM,and oddly enough, neither have had the guts to give actual answers to any of the relevant questions. I realize that there is good, and bad anywhere one may lease on at,yet there is such a thing as common grounds, and integrity, and I am not all that impressed with such from certain ones at Malone. I am "old school",and pride myself in running my business, and also realize that there are certain "politics" which I need to play, yet when it gets to the bottom line,I refuse to play silly games, and want a "mutual" understanding with my partnering company, and an agreement that they handle their end,as I will certainly handle mine, and if they can not do such, then shame on them !
