Best advice i could give is run hard or go home who would you employ if you were an employer the guy/ gal that sort of always rocks up late and pretty much leaves right on the bell or the guy / gal who just goes to that extra bit of help just give it that Mitas touch who are you going to employ ? The same pretty much goes for us drivers . you know things don't always go our way, do we really understand what goes on in the dispatchers room though? we always want our way, well aren't the dispatchers also entitled to get there own way too? so what i'm saying is we got to be prepared to be flexable to bend, yeild abit every now and then and you'll always find things will work out for you in the end.
Regards

Road dust, I am going to Cedar Rapids on 10/19
I was told that I would be getting 20 cents per mile for driving myself.. So I don't understand why Beans is paying back the bus fare. I was also told to bring a cooler for the truck because I will be able to buy food and water in bulk instead of buying every thing in a truck stop.
My recruiters name is Christine... So far she has answered all my questions... Bean How was the log book test and agility test.. What did you have to do? -
Yeah, my recruiter said lodging and the refresher course would have to be paid back. Didn't say anything about the bus ticket. The cooler sounds like a good idea, but if I have to take a bus, I think I will wait to buy one on the road. It would be a pain in the you know what to lug around on a bus along with everything else. I guess it would also depend on who you get for a trainer and how much room he or she has. From everything I have read, they like you to bring as little as possible.
I am curious about the testing also. -
Why do you have to take a refresher course road dust..?
I am just reporting to orientation. I am also staying right in the Cedar Rapids terminal... Hopefully there will be room. I am driving from Illinois instead of taking the bus. Thought it would be easier on me. It is only 4 hours away.
I am nervous and excited. This is a completely new adventure in my life. When are you going?
Good Luck! -
Judith, I have to take a refresher because I got my cdl last year and I have not driven since (long story). I won't be there until the 26th of Oct so looks like I will miss you. I wish I was driving there. I have a feeling the bus is going to suck.
Whats the terminal like where you are staying?
I, too, am nervous and excited. And good luck to you too! -
cedar rapids is a rather nice terminal, since its the main headquarters but they are still kinda ran down, but cr is the only paved terminal, ive heard rumors of the fontana yard moving to a paved lot which would be awesome. Its been in the back of my mind to come back to crst just not sure yet hah!
-
Cedar rapids is nice pretty clean lots of room to move around in the main lounge area 3 flat screen tv in 3 different rooms free coffee the usual vending machine a couple of toasters and a big refrigerator a couple of micro waves a nice size smoking area outside and two gas grills as far as places to eat be prepared to walk a couple of blocks. And yes you have to pay back the money for the bus ticket rooms at ceder rapids are full size beds 3 people to a room roomate may be on different scheduales or you may get a new roomate at 2 a.m.
road dust Thanks this. -
Be sure to let me know about the physical agility test an the road test when you get to that point, okay? Good luck!
-
i was there in june for orientation there was no agility test and as long as your physical was recent and not done by a chiropractor you were good to go, the driving test was pretty easy, basically drive around the block type test with no backing involved. One quick bit of advice opt out of comdata for your pay if you can, get the paper check sent home if someone can deposit it in you account for you and just use your ATM for money on the road. They have a bad habit of screwing up reembursments and if they over reemburs you they will charge you interest on the amount of the overage and you will not get a check until it is paid off
judith1962 and road dust Thank this.
