Your exactly right. Our customer, funny you mention it, gave us a choice of loads he was willing to give us, we’ve totally booked everyday next week and we have done 4 days with him this week. If we had another truck we could of took all the loads which would net 21,000 for next week. Since we are only 1 truck operation we’ve booked us 16,000 next week and just under 4,000 miles. The pay is great, we are pulling his trailers and just incredible people to work with. We have been very blessed in the trucking industry.

I know a company in Atlanta that hires new CDL grads and trains them to do heavy haul oversize, but you have to do a ride along at half pay for 9 - 12 months, as their night watchman , the owner of the cargo pays for an extra person to ride along and stay awake at night to keep an eye on the cargo while the driver sleeps , before you get to be a full time driver.
Once you’re a full time driver you can bring your spouse as the night watchman and train them as a driver.

Home every weekend so most of their drivers live within two hours of their yard .

After the training period , and are a full time driver , you can bring your wife as the rider .

China that kind of thing scares me. I’ve got a 65ton here in the yard. Ask me how many green as grass drivers have been past the gate with it. My insurance guy would have me committed for a psychological evaluation for a start.

You already made one that’s a solid resource for information. @pumpkinishere is on the same trail a couple of miles ahead. You might want to keep them in radio range if you know what I mean.

Just wondering if the op or her husband have a cdl, if not just remember not everyone can drive a truck even if they think they can and even if they can, some can do it for long.

get a cdl, work for a company first then see what happens.
