Yesterday I noticed that when I start my 2010 cascsdia, DD15, that the starter makes a kinda crunchy sound for the first second of the start. The starter then cranks over as usual. Its done it since yesterday and I'm hoping it's not major. I'm thinking the Bendix is not fully engaged. Any thoughts. Thanks

Yep, probably not cleanly engaging the ring gear. The starter is talking to you! Time for a new one!

    bzinger Thanks this.
  4. Check the mounting bolts. Could be loose. Before you yank it out, found a few trucks with a loose starter

Get it fixed ASAP whatever it is! If you keep going you can wreck the ring gear which requires pulling the transmission!
