Yep, that's the way it goes. I told that little punk who tried to manipulate me that it's not personal, it's business. Some loads these guys lose money on. Reality is though they make it up on the backside.
They have to protect their on time service records with the shippers and if not, they're gone. So, if it means paying a $1,000 bucks to save a load and face with the customer, they'll do it.
One broker I've gotten to know pretty well told me today that they lost a big junk of their Costco contract. Why? Because of poor on time delivery performance, mostly from the bigger carriers.
The only thing we as one man dog & pony shows have to offer as independents is service. I'm convinced many of us as owner ops will flourish as the ELD mandate goes into place. Mainly because we know how to plan and how to run. That will work in our favor even more as the rates (which I believe) will go up to compensate for the mandate going into place.

That's how goes. You have to let this stuff go in one ear and out the other. Everyone in this business knows it has ups and downs thru the year. There's no need for a broker to lose their cool. By the same token you really don't accomplish anything rubbing it in his face either.
And guys it's never greed with any quote. It's a free country we all have the choices yes or no. That greed talk is just whiney ### broker propaganda and intimidation when they can't get their usual cheap capacity. And of course it's always OK for them when the tables are turned, right? Ha..
Hey man if I'm relaxing and about to crack open a beer and somebody calls me up wanting to interrupt that with work then it #### well better be worth it. It's not like any of us is out here getting rich off of every load we haul any way. One really good one gets averaged into nothing special fairly quickly with a lot more of the typical ordinary ones.Dale thompson, gentran, passingthru69 and 2 others Thank this. -
Ditto...
As for the little punk, I didn't burn any bridges. I'm more than willing to run any load he offers, so long as it's mutually agreed upon. -
Yeah I can't really say much for someone who is willing to sacrifice their dignity as a negotiation ploy. I see it some with carriers occasionally and it just disgusts me. Dispatchers who try to lay it on thick about how poor and woebegone their driver is bug the crap out of me. You're his ####ing dispatcher/truck owner it's your job to get him home when he needs to be home by. You obviously didn't care that much about when he gets home because you sure as #### took a load of produce up to a notoriously ####ty DC to get him home supposedly. Now you get to go to my customers packing shed 3-4 states over. We're paying you so shut the hell up. And don't tell me that you didn't expect this, your MC is from 2010-2015 range.
EDIT: Not a fan of being made to feel guilty for someone else's screw up. I told you exactly what you were getting into when you got into it. Similarly I don't give a #### if you have a 11am pickup appointment and you're delivering produce for me into some C&S with a 10am delivery appointment. I'm sorry you lied to the other guy about when you would be empty. That is not my fault.passingthru69 and Ruthless Thank this.
