Nunu62 - perhaps you're right, maybe I should have done an official Internal Affairs, but I didn't really want to take it that far. To be honest, I don't want to see the guy lose his job, or anyone for that matter. I think he may be a little jaded, or need some re-training. He's not a newbie, maybe he's a bit burned out, I don't know. Tazz - yes, an obvious violation, but we just didn't think it was appropriate with terminology saying he was doing a "happy dance" about finding those obvious violations....it just seems a bit over the top. We never really thought his words were threatening, just not appropriate for the seriousness of the meeting. You're also right, there are several sides to a story and you're only seeing one. There were 2 other Drivers who made a complaint. A fourth does safety consulting on the side and testifies at Federal level cases, he reported this to his contacts at the FMCSA in Washington, they were not amused with this Officer's comments...

i really wouldnt care about him losing his job--it doesnt sound like he respectes his authority or does his job as it supposed to be done
power tripping litte dictators like this shouldnt be out there--i bet when he gets to draw his revolver he gets an erection
i would go with the official complaint--what do you have to lose?TheHealthyDriver Thanks this. -
Well, plenty actually I think. The Officer gave the Safety Supervisor my name, even though our conversation was in confidence, maybe that's naive on my part. Anyway, I don't want to keep beating this dead horse to be honest. Just passing all of this along so anyone who travels here will be careful and not be surprised if they run into this guy...even though I don't think he's indicative of the mindset in the Dept., or at least let's hope. This had nothing to do with my Company, they did the right thing by inviting DPS to come in to discuss some of the grey areas and vagueness of the whole CSA program, there are plenty of those. I won't go for the official Internal Affairs complaint unless there are other ramifications, and right now I don't think there will be...we'll see. I'll update here as things change. Like I said before, there are things going on with this Officer, I just don't want to post it until they've happened, or are confirmed. Trying to keep it as factual as possible.

Just a footnote: I am a member of OOIDA - I gave them all of this information, I heard back from them...the Editor's Dept. said their Compliance Dept. may try and contact this Officer for comment, I gave them his name. I wrote a Letter To The Editor, it may or may not appear, not sure at this juncture...

I think that you, not only did the right thing, but I would have taken it a step further.
If this LEO, someone who is supposed to be one of the good guys and should an exemplary law abiding citizen, is conspiring with a judge to manipulate the outcome of a trial and this is proven, EVERY CONVICTION associated with this officer or Judge could be AND SHOULD BE challenged for potenetial misconduct!!! -
I'm naive I guess, what part of what the guy said was wrong? Other than CSA changes nothing but data collection. If you violated a reg and the officer goes before the judge with the violation and your MVR you're probably going to lose. It is his job to nail you for every violation. Granted it shouldn't matter if he's having a bad day or not, but lets face it that's how most people perform their duties whether they know it or not. CSA does kind of suck for you, kind of.

Like I said Meltom what was the context of the statement?
I am sure the people at Grain Valley will now be screaming prrof of every officer everywhere is corrupt and hunting the poor simple driver. They are real good at working up fervor over nothingness. They supposedly had some Mossouri cop confess until his record and reason for dismissal was exposed.
More than likley this is a case of a group of drivers chafing at the new record system(I do find it odd to have meetings about a program that has been in effect for a year and talked about for three) disliking the brutal truth presented to them and acusing an officer of malicious attitude when he thought he was just being jovial.
The OP hints at this very thing saying they found his comments inappropriate for the seriousness of the conversation. Sounds like they got their feelings hurt to me and will now have Landline and ORIDA banging their shoes on the tables at the next conference about the Gestapo like tactics abusing their drivers.
Well if they can afford to send anyone after their shiny new politician they recently bought. -
Was it a "scared straight" presentation, as a favor for the safety manager, by the state trooper...? Seems like one of those deals where the safety guys asks his neighbor, the state trooper, to come into a meeting and care the hell out of folks...

I say if this were all true...Stop all freight going to and leaving AZ.....
Boycott AZ like Truckers boycotted (IIRC) Indiana back in the mid 80's....
Truckers bring in viable revenue to any state they run through....Not just the revenue enhancements..... -
AZ has some pretty dumb regs too....
Conspicuty Tape must level with the roof edge of the tractor and trailer.....Never mind the manufacturers go by DOT's specs....
Mudflaps cannot exceed 7" off the ribbon while a rig is moving.....How is an ADOT going to measure when a rig is moving down the highway...Do they have some laser measuring device?
You have to obtain an amber warning light permit before entering the state...Which btw...AZ only issues permits at the coop..... Go figure that one...
I know this because I run OD loads through AZ all the time....
