Next time someone gets a citation for it I'd be interested to see what regs they are using. I would suggest challenging any findings if you feel you have grounds for it.

He shouldn't have been using them as a sail? This is what drove me crazy when I took criminal law, it's open to interpretation all too often.

Could be, we don't do a lot of Arizona. On top of that we plan on leaving the state as well so we typically like have mudflaps and such.

But why get upset at the DPS for citing you for everything that is wrong with your truck? It's not their job to make the world a happy shiny place, it's their job to cite you when things are incorrect. If you get a citation that isn't valid use the legal system for your recourse. I would recommend that when you are in court it would probably be best not call the DPS Nazi's and compare them writing citations to killing women and babies. Just sayin'

come on, do you really think I would go into court and say that? that's just the way I and my wife and my children and my trucking friends and there relatives and there friends and every one thats in the trucking business feels, any truck driver that says he thinks the AZ DPS are good guys is lying.I had a next door neighbor that was a Chief of police in a local town, and he said that a good cop does not enforce the letter of the law, but rather turns his head on minor infractions, AZ DPS trys to enforce the letter of the law, WHY? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yes, there is a difference between enforceing the letter of the law vs the spirit of the law. Take for instance a trailer side light is out during an inspection. It was on when you did your pre trip, and has been all daylight driving since then. The dot officer is there and You flick the light and it comes on. So the bulb either vibrated loose or the socket is going bad. Even better instead of saying you will replace thesocket at the next truck stop you have a spare with you and fix it right on the spot. Do you still deserve a ticket? According to the letter of the law you do. But the spirit of the law really isn't looking for someone who's light went bad en route...is it? Sounds pretty unreasonable to me.

Nothing being blown out of proportion....these were verbatim quotes. That's what makes it a serious matter IMO. The guy was completely serious...

"Sailing mud flaps" are the usual reason for getting the truck stopped, after that they have a heyday... they can't even be original anymore. They really don't need a reason to stop you at all, other than they just want to...

Are we talking about being pulled over, or when you go thru a scale? I just want to make sure i'm following the conversation. In my limited experience my drivers have rarely had issues with AZ
