They will just open the border some more and let the Mexicans have our jobs, just like they did with the construction/building industry. Of course with as bad as trucking continues to devolve, what sane person wants this job anymore?
I have yet to meet SMART kid that says he wants to be a trucker when he grows up!!

Don't know but consider this:
If the Trucking industry weeds out the herd of all the unhealthy, "bad and unsafe drivers" or whatever due to CSA 2010, which could add up to significant numbers btw, what would happen to our economy from that point on? Higher unemployments? Not just from the drivers pool but from those trucking companies who are out of business and the companies/people who co-exist in servicing them and so on. Some of the larger companies might be able to whether through the storm but a lot of the smaller one would be forced out of business. Similar to having "mom & pop" tk stops disappearing, large number of trucking "underdogs" would be forced to quit. Anyone remember before Unocal 76 + Truck Stops of America became Travel Centers of America, kind of nice when there was a healthy competition and a choice? Truck makers, dealerships, financing companies, repair shops, tire makers, re-thread companies, salvage yards, truck stops, after market companies, glass makers, etc....in todays economy we're all connected. What would happen when everyone realizes that they strangled the very industry that has significant correlation to the growth of countrys GNP? If it cost more for the freight to be moved, whose pockets do you think thatll be coming out of? So much for the road to recovery . On the other hand, when its too late we can always bring in the Mexican fleets in a hurry.thecoxster Thanks this. -
I'd imagine if there were a "driver shortage" at Prime, we, the drivers would have heard about it by now. Nada.

I just listened to the CD yesterday and I didn't pick up on CSA 2010 causing a driver shortage. I might have dazed off and missed that part. What I DID hear is that so many trucks have been taken off the road due to the poor economy, that supply and demand is starting to level out now along with the improving economy. I didn't hear a correlation between CSA 2010 and a driver shortage. And I agree with what has already been said...double digit unemployment? There won't be a driver shortage for a long time.
Those of you who said the company only cares about themselves and their own bottom line, the very first thing they talked about on the CD was how they are increasing the guarantee for lease ops. So they are in fact sharing the wealth.
Everybody always has their finger on the trigger to bash a profit making company. Sheesh.DirtySideDown and JustSonny Thank this. -
Yeah, Mike, it would be so much better for us drivers if the #### company would just quit trying to make money! I mean, what's up with that?
DirtySideDown and JustSonny Thank this. -
I did not intend to imply that there would be a shortage of drvs at Prime. But that the CSA 2010 will eleminate many drivers, with their point system that are out here now. Which as I understand it, will be posted on your DAC. Yes, with unemployment at .7 - .9 percent there will be plenty of apps.
I did deffineatly heard on yhe CD they expect to obtain new clients and to educate them on the CSA....., appt times, HOS, security measures that we have on high value loads.
I do not foresee anything happening as quickly as our new health plan but change is on the way.DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
I'm sure that's what they intend for the time being... I doubt that will be the case in a year or two. Lets say you have a crappy rating per CSA2010... even if you do, the company you're driving for won't be able to improve their score by letting you go. You're numbers stay with that carrier for three years, so it would behoove them to educate you to become a better driver than just let you go.
That's the plan for now. In a couple of years, my bet is that there will be a driver rating system. -
You know, I've discovered over time that Uncle Don has been wrong on a LOT about CSA2010. Example...he constantly says that a "warning" will carry the same weight as a "ticket" on our driver rating or whatever. My question, where is he getting this? I'm pretty sure he's very wrong about that from what I've read. I've also heard him say that we will be scored in the same category as with a company that has 100 trucks. That's just plain incorrect. Flat out wrong. Everything I've read has very specific wording about the different categories trucking companies will be placed into. His argument of "we should be scored based upon per million miles driven" makes sense though.
Truth is, nobody really knows 100% what CSA2010 will fully entail. Right now everyone is just making educated guesses and likely assumptions. But nobody really knows. I even asked an Ohio DOT officer who did a Level II on me (really nice guy) how this whole deal was going to affect his job and he said he didn't have a clue.Even DOT is clueless.
