That's what I did but I got real lucky and found a good job that pays by the hour. I got paid when I went through the gate until I went back through to go home. It's a whole different world when all the drivers do not need to break any rules to make a great living. The job is done the way it was designed to be done. Plus the company makes more than just paying by the load.

I believe these high dollar companies need to STOP recruiting managers from top colleges and get back to promoting from within. Get rid of the book smarts and get some practical people that make the decisions. It's really bad when the higher ups do not even know what a compartment on a tanker is.

Same thing with dispatchers. They have a BA and no common sense.

It's amazing how many people on here disagree with that. Do you really thing the big companies like Werner who force you to run legal are carrying the majority of the freight? They carry idiot-proof loads that anyone can haul. Why is most of TMC's loads steel and lumber? So when the rookie crashes they can put most loads on another trailer and deliver it. The people dodging the scales and running over hours are the ones getting the job done. And when they get pulled over and inspected, they can fool DOT and keep goin. I've been DOT'd twice this year and got 100% clean inspection, no violations discovered. And I routinely work 18 hour days. It's a game being played by everyone. When they figure out a way to keep me legal, is the day I put my truck up for sale. In the mean time the people running legal and preaching about it make a small fraction of the money in trucking.

Okay, I'll take that as a personal commitment from you to sale your truck in the year 2012. In the meantime keep thinking you are going to gin the system. It's only a matter of time before some 4 wheeler is going ruin your day, and then you get to wait to find out how much jail time you are going to do.

Go ahead and work you 18 hour days for your pennies per mile. Those of us who run smarter, not harder will continue to make the majority of the money and will have the better quality of life to boot.

See I think that as peer groups are formed and comparison's are made a lot of drivers might have a violation or two and have several "clean" inspections, while others consistently have violations that were not recorded prior to CSA2010.

How many actually do a pretrip? Watch a truck stop some morning. It scares the crap out of me watching someone do a cursory(walk around and count lights,maybe kick a couple tires) and then take off down the road that my daughter is in a school bus on.

Do an experiment. Ask the guy next to you if you can borrow his tire gauge for a second because yours broke.

How many out of ten do you think will have one?

How many do you see actually check their wheel seals? Ever seen a wheel assembly cross the road?

Will we catch every driver with faulty habits and equipment? Doubtful, but if we can get some of them........

Did you not read, or in your case, understand/comprehend, what I said? "One the way you hear a hiss, you loose pressure, and pull over..." This would indicate that as soon as the equipment failed, meaning, within seconds, I..pulled...over... Who in there right mind is going to continue driving with their warning buzzer on and air blowing out of the tractor like it wasn't even connected??? So, by your logic, I should have pulled over and changed the glad hands, or called a mechanic, before the failure occured...just in case. Right? There was absolutely nothing that would have indicated there being an issue before. I hit a bump coming out of a construction zone, boom...pressure's gone, immediately pull over. Please, explaine to me again how I could have predicted what going to happen. Lucky for me I just happened to be passing the only store on this stretch of US 33, (in the middle of the WV mountains) so I had a very safe place to pull into...a parking lot! As I was in a parking lot, had an unforeseen equipment failure, and immediately pulled over after "drifting" no more then 200 feet to get to the parking lot,(this would indicate that I did not drive with or while having equipment failure) please, tell me how citing me while I'm waiting for a repair was "legit". I'd love to hear your bucket full of wisdom on this one...
Whinning??? Really? I'd call it having a backbone, or standing up for what one believes to be right or wrong. Like I said before, I have a voice, the difference between you and me is...I'm not afraid to let mine be heard.

Since you say "we", I am only to assume that you are one of the almighty "enforcers". How about we, meaning truckers, come up with a system that "tracks" how well you are doing your job? Wouldn't make you very happy would it? That is not to say that I believe the industy should not be regulated...that would be outragous! My point is the extent of "governing". We all know this isn't about highway safty...I'll never buy into that pile of crap. This is about lost revenue. Plain and simple. O, and lets not forget the strong effort of the government having their drivers on the road...after all, those are the 2 main reasons for this latest and greatest system...

When you explain how its not legit (it was leaking) I will see your point. As it stands your whining because YOU got a ticket. Please show a link/quote a reg. or what ever you think makes you special. If you were whining to the officer like you are here I understand why you got the ticket. Maybe that voice your so proud of got you that ticket. Use that backbone and fight it. Whining won't help.

I agree this type of goverment bs makes it hard on everyone.But i agree with GasHauler. This has been coming for awhile now. I pride myself on my safety record and knowledge on my equipment. There is going to be more coming down the tube. The goverment is not done yet. I had to deciede either im going to quit and find something else or adapt and overcome.I love what i do so the answer was easy, i will do what i need to do to take care of my family and provide. If they want me ,their task will not be easy,I will not roll over and whine and compalin, Ill do what it takes and have a good time doing it.

right. cuz this time, unlike all the other b.s. that was supposed to work, they have figured out a way to stop people from running like this.

why does everyone assume that because people run over their hours, they must work for pennies? stupid would be running illegal for pennies. if you make good money, wouldnt that entice you to run longer hours at a good rate? when i started out at minimum wage right outta high school i never thought, "gee, at $4.75 an hour i should work lotsa hours to make good money!!!"

You can do this by running legal and keeping your maintenance up.
If you choose not to do those things, then you will wrack up points and you will have issues.
CSA2010 has no new inspection criteria for drivers or trucks. You will still be inspected for the same things you have always had.
If you are professional and keep things up then you will have no issues.
If a DOT officer decides that every truck he pulls over will get a ticket for something, then over time this will show. And he will eventually get fired or have to be retrained. Due to all the complaints.
All complaints against Officers go onto their permanent record. Get enough of them and you will have issues. Same with drivers. Get enough points and you will have issues.

The company you are talking about was flying under the radar under safestat. This is why CSA2010 was made.
Since the intervention you are talking about the points for different things have been adjusted, and will continue to be fine tuned as this thing rolls out.
At the moment the biggest thing company's are having issues with is form and manner violations on logs. Because drivers are not keeping logs up to date and with all info filled out.
This is what will lead many company's to swapping to e-logs. And is the reason my company is going to them now. Even though our rating under CSA2010 is very good.

At this time all company's know what there score is under CSA, it is all online for them now to review. So if they are deficient they can start working on changing.
